When you consider that Gvardiol has been playing LB for the last 2 seasons & cost £75m, £30m for Alt Nouri is a bargain.

Feels as though we have signed him more for his attacking ability over his defensive qualities. Although Gvardiol has contributed massively with goals, when we face a flat back 10, Alt Nouri will more likely take the fullbacks on instead of recycling the ball back into the centre

In my opinion, based from watching Ait-Nouri play around 25-30 times, Gvardiol is undoubtedly significantly better than Ait-Nouri defensively. Ait-Nouri is better going forward. Will hopefully offer more to our attack while also allowing Gvardiol to move in as a CB where we can still use his attacking threat on set pieces.
I doubt Ait-Nouri himself will do much to improve our defense, but much of the needed improvement defensively should hopefully come from being stronger in the middle of the pitch with Gvardiol at CB, Rodri back, Reijnders at CM etc.

I don’t think it’s fair to say that Gvardiol is poor defensively at left-back.

I agree he’s not had a great season, but which players have?

Last year, he was fucking brilliant there.
