I was wondering that. We saw it over and over during the season. He could look terrific for about half-an-hour. Then faded badly.
Pep's problem was increasingly this: can you carry a player who can, in flashes, do something that nobody else on the pitch, and few in the world, can do, if they can no longer align three full-pelt PL games? The short answer would be yes, if you're not MCFC, with MCFC's expectations at this point.

It must have been a hard decision, not taken lightly. But I think it's the right one, if we get the three that we seem to be getting. I now believe that was being worked on weeks back. You don't replace Kev. You get something different.
