The Squad planning thread

Ideally we'd get a proven RB in to be first choice and have Nunes as backup.

Nunes is grand at RB imo. Got better as the season went on. Had he played more often he might have been better still but Pep was doolally this season.

I'd let Lewis go on loan or on a buyback deal. He is not good enough imo to be a fullback, a central midfielder or one of tge attackers for us. But he is a very good player. Rather than being a reserve I think he should go and make a decent go at it elsewhere and see what happens.

I pray Akanji never again plays RB and id prefer him to be sold. He is a decent defender but a horrible decision maker when he plays further forward in terms of using the ball well or recovering in the case of a break.

And Stones as another RB option has to go due to injuries unfortunately.

Maybe the crazy option for rb is Bernardo. He is awful up front these days but has toughness and stamina. Only thing that is missing is probably speed and height.

Whilst the squad transitions to the next version, it will still need to retain squad members who have won stuff but can still contribute.
The defence can retain enough, even with the new blood, but the attack, less so, imho.
I still couldn't call on who stays and who goes in midfield and it could be anyone. It does look to me as though he is giving himself options all over the pitch. The options we lost with all the injuries.
Fascinated to see who flies to the States.

I think you can throw Khusanov in there as an option for right back as well. We've seen Pep be happy to play CB's out wide if they have the right attributes and it looks like Khusanov does. Maybe getting the game time at right back will develop his composure on the ball and if he makes a mistake out there he has the pace and a CB covering him for the mistake to be contained

I'd hope Khusonov is trust straight into CB next week. Imo he should be prepped asap to be our longterm partner to Gvardiol.

Here is our current squad which has gone from the smallest in the PL to the second biggest (one player behind Wolves) at 32 players.

Carson and KDB will vanish at the end of the month. When they go the average age will go from 26.8 to 26.1

This is without the 12 players on loan who all return on 1st July which include Bah Walker Phillips and Kayky.

A lot of work for Viana. No wonder Txiki is leaving!

Interesting to see what our final CWC squad looks like. Obviously neither KDB nor Carson will be there. McAtee is with England U21s. Kovacic is injured. Grealish looks like he’ll be left out with Walker. Not that it matters but Phillips is also injured.

Jack Gaughan mentioned a squad of 25 or so. Excluding the above we have 28 senior players listed on our website. Will we see a few more left out? Not sure if Stones is fit enough to go. Can’t see Wilson Esbrand going either. If Gaughan is correct it also means we’re unlikely to see many, if any, young players brought along.

Anyone seen the ESPN segment on our “Sporadic Spending”. We’re not competing next year according to them.
Yes I saw it. They are normally OK but I thought they were harsh this time basically saying since January we had replaced great players with good players.

We will just have to see!

I see both Arsenal and City pushing Liverpool but nobody else.

think it'll just be those 27/28.

It’s a set of the usual bellends who don’t actually watch football and are all blagging it
Mark ogden spouting utter shite isn’t a surprise - arguing the window was underwhelming because we need a right back. As if we won’t get one by August
As for Nicol and Hutchinson - those guys are clowns if they can’t see where reinders is gonna play and then the usual cherki is a world beater but obviously won’t do it at city
They are all either complete idiots or in denial

As in Liverpool, Arsenal and City being relegated having been beaten by every other team? I thought I was pessimistic.

Given Dias is 28, I'd hope thats at least 2-3 years off. He should get enough games in the mix of RB and cover CB till then. In 3 years time, Gvardioll will be 26 and Khusanov 24. They'll both have plenty of experience and their best years ahead of them. Reis and Bah both 22 at that point as well. If all those mentioned may the progress expected we're set for 10 years.

The positive about this situation though is thats a lot of players to shift to bring in cash and bring the wage bill down. Like you say a lot of work to do but we'll be in a great position age and profile wise once its done

Most of our loan players aren't due back until the end of the month so it'll be a surprise to see them in the CWC squad.
Wright, Perrone, Kabore, Couto have all been sold so that leaves the futures of Walker, Phillips, Bah, Mbete, Wilson-Esbrand, Kayke, Susoho, Doyle & Burns etc still to be sorted.

Wheres Kabore going?

On a $1m a year contract with us until 2027 so Viana will be working overtime to get his wages off the books if Werder Bremen don't sign him. He is an international RB though, you never know!!
ah thought he has a move lined up from your post. Just another to shift.

I read the Bremen forum recently, and there was no great enthusiasm for bringing him back. They seemed to recognise that there was a player in there, but that he would likely be on their bench and be too expensive for them for just that. Has a young family, too, so must be hard moving from club to club.
