Gvardiol has been one of our best attacking players when played on the left. Arguably our best attacking player this season.

The way he gets forward and adds a goal threat, across the full season he’s been the only player in the squad this season seemingly willing to play short quick passes and 1-2s in and around the box (everyone else has just played safe and wanted to go backwards, apart from Gundo of late)… top class!

He’s not quite up to speed defensively on the left yet, but when he’s played centre back, we don’t look like conceding a goal.
 
sick amount of minutes played this season by him. PL, cups, CL, always selected for Croatia as well.
started 36 PL games out of 38.
9 of our 10 CL games.
also started 8 games for Croatia.
some more in Carabao and FA cup.

easily most minutes played within City games with over 4500 minutes 2nd and 3rd are Bernardo and Haaland with 3900 and 3750 minutes.

must be fucking tired and now he has two more Croatia games soon and then CWC. hope other defenders are now back and wont be overused during the summer.

I hope he gets a week more off than everyone else. He needs it.
 
Our best CB who needs to play CB becuase hes a world class CB

Yea he's also very good at LB but solidarity and a good defence is priority for winning things and having him at CB makes us defensively strong, there are others who can fill the LB role and let Gvardiol-Dias partnership flourish

If Pep has a weakness I think that it is not playing players on their best positions.
Gvardiols best position is CB. Play him there and leave him there.
 
Josko with the assist for the opener against the Czechs today. He is playing lb tonight.
 
One tactic against the low block that I'm really interested to see is having central defenders that are dangerous on the ball, either because they can thread a pass, dribble past someone, or shoot well from distance.

We've seen so many games where opponents are happy for Dias and Akanji to pass the ball to each other 35 yards out, safe in the knowledge that neither is really much of a threat with the ball at their feet

We had this to an extent with Stones, but he was more "comfortable" than "dangerous" around the edge of the box

But Gvardiol can in fact pick a pass, dribble past his man, and of course hit a ball really well off either foot. Would love to see how teams deal with that once he slams one home from 25 yards or slaloms past a defender to open up some space. They'd soon start having to step out to deal with him and that should help create gaps that are often in short supply

Maybe but a deserving winner
He will move up to an even higher level with the addition of the " new boys" and the return to form of some of our current players.
Still very young

I had it between him and Kovacic. He was just about the best of a not great bunch.

Anyway, congratulations to Gvardiol and let's hope he can cut out the silly mistakes.
 
Back to full time LCB next season.

The Ait Nouri signing and emergence of O Reilly surely means that.
