Will the rest of that aircraft type have to be grounded now, or will that be after the FDR has been examined ?
Hopefully the cause is pilot error rather than a mechanical fault.

I fucking hate flying but I like to travel, things like this are rare but I literally feel like shit the day before I fly with worry. I'm a mechanical engineer and I laugh when I get senior management telling me they want anything M&E related, designing with zero chance of failure.

Rest in peace to all onboard and any civilians on the ground.
i hear that mate...fkin hate flying myself, although its never actually stopped me going anywhere. I worked in India for a year, on 3 month turnarounds, so flew in and out a few times, it got easier when the Mrs got me some Diazepam...so, a little cocktail of that , brandy and cocodamol saw me thru......and as you saw, RIP to those aboard and on the ground, I hope they knew nothing.

I was always scared of flying until 1 day my hangover was that bad i was half wishing for the worst! ever since then weirdly i've been fine. still never look out the window mind.

They've named a survivor. Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. Thank god at least someone made it out alive.

"Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly. When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital. We visited Diu. [My brother] was travelling with me and I can’t find him anymore. Please help me find him."

If true that is a miracle, given the footage we’ve all seen. Got an air of Unbreakable about it.

Unbreakable

At least it wasn’t especially prolonged, I guess.

True - but I’ve sometimes wondered what those 10 seconds or so would be like.

Plane crashes are fairly unique in the fact that you are fully aware you are completely fucked and there is nothing you can do about it.

If you’re in a car crash for example, your thought process in those final seconds would be purely focussed on trying to evade whatever you’re about to hit / avoid serious injury. Likewise other life threatening situations such as getting caught in a terrorist attack - you are fully focused on finding a way not to die.

Plane crash - you have however many seconds/minutes to contemplate inevitable death.
