London bound Air India 787 Dreamliner crashes at Ahmedabad

That’s a crazy story. I guess the height doesn’t really matter as you’d reach terminal velocity pretty quickly, it’d be how and on what you landed on.

The Final Destination franchise will be adding these two miracles to their plot lines in their next sequel.
There's also this, from a 18000ft...landing in snow covered firs and ultimately soft snow.

I've just seen the playback of the flight on FlightRadar24, something a bit odd about the take off, the pilot starts the take off run only half way down the runway, but appeared to get airborne at a "normal" speed of 184KT, and it slowed immediately, the footage doesn't appear to show a stall, just "controlled" level descent into the ground, though the nose appeared to go up just before impact, also strange the wheels stayed lowered, that's bad for drag once airborne.

The runway is quite long, but only has taxiways to about half way length, so to go the end for takeoff would effectively close the runway for a couple of minutes while the pilot reverse taxi's to the far end.

Had they done that though, it's likely it would have come down inside the airfield perimeter, at least likely saving those in the residential area.

You can see why the news channels earlier were a bit suspicious about that survivor! Amazing how anyone survives that and then just walks down the road!

Even more so if 11A is nearer the front of the aircraft.
Maybe not, his seat is ahead of the fuel tanks, which would have quickly exploded, but behind him, and the video showed no sign of him being burned, yet it's reported that buildings well in front of the crash site were burned out, he's just remarkably lucky, unlike his brother who was sat next to him.

I’ve posted this before, my best mate from meeting at Infant School in 1963 lost his parents on the 25th April 1980 on a Dan Air flight that crashed into the mountain in Tenerife.

I was with him when he found out, another friend’s Mum rang his house (where I was staying whilst his parents were away) to say there had been a crash in Tenerife. My friend rang the number he’d been given and an Official confirmed they were on the flight.

His life changed from that moment, he never recovered properly, suffered huge mental issues, I lived with him for two years but the damage was done. He lost his girlfriend, he drank heavily and eventually lost the house he inherited along with a substantial financial payout in compensation and from his Dad’s pension fund.

He’s still alive at 66 but his life has been ruined, he was physiologically damaged. My heart goes out to all victims of accidents/attacks wether innocent or planned, it can truly devastate families.

landing gear may have stayed down because pilots were busy with other stuff, looked like it got to around 600ft without a problem then its as if a loss of engine power kicked in

was watching a docu on this crash the other day, they put the plane in a holding pattern over the moutains while another plane was clearing the airport, weather conditions were bad with fog so why they didnt hold the plane over the water is another thing, that airport should never have been put there, ive flown in many times and one minute its brilliant sunshine the next the fog rolls in as its in a valley between the mountains, same airport that had the big pan am crash and again the weather and no radar in those days

FR24 says the 600 FT is misleading for several reasons (that was above MSL), it probably only got to 190 FT.

Looks like a software control error to me. Both engines lost power and the plane turned into a glider.

Got to say I'm staggered anyone survived. He was inside the equivalent of a napalm bomb.

That’s correct mate, it was Tenerife North, no radar, was operated by beacons. There was also a miscommunication from the Control Tower to the Flight Deck where the Pilots didn’t question their instructions despite privately being a little dubious about what they’d heard.

Was just over three years after the Pan Am/KLM collision at the North Airport but not many people remember it, there’s a Memorial Grave at Manchester Southern Cemetery. A bit gruesome but my mate’s Dad’s wallet was returned to him in pristine condition along with currency bank notes.

I know it's not the focus here after so many tragic deaths, don't want to come across as insensitive to that but I cannot imagine how that one single survivor is feeling. They must be feeling pure raw elation from being the one single survivor whilst also drowning in survivor guilt.

Type of thing you only hear about in fiction.

His brother died so he’s processing that loss too. Mad story. He will become famous. The way he walked down that street to the ambulance on his phone telling the cameramen to fuck off might become iconic.
