London bound Air India 787 Dreamliner crashes at Ahmedabad

The comments on social media is sick. Some how this has turned into an anti-immigration issue. Fucking mental gymnastics
To be expected on socials, because it’s where people can act like cunts. I wasn’t surprised by the comments when sites put on ‘British national survived’. It was like clockwork and all too boring and predictable. Best just to read, laugh at the people posting such shit and move on.

Half are bot accounts just looking to get clicks for engagement, don't know why anyone even bothers to read em.

“His name doesn’t sound very British’, ‘He’s Indian with a British passport’. Fucking arseholes.

I believe Air India had GE engines on their 787s not Trents. Doubt it would make much difference to the sound though.
You are correct, after a bit of research Air India do indeed have GE engines, a bad choice but I don't think it has any influence on this terrible tragedy

I’ve posted this before, my best mate from meeting at Infant School in 1963 lost his parents on the 25th April 1980 on a Dan Air flight that crashed into the mountain in Tenerife.

I was with him when he found out, another friend’s Mum rang his house (where I was staying whilst his parents were away) to say there had been a crash in Tenerife. My friend rang the number he’d been given and an Official confirmed they were on the flight.

His life changed from that moment, he never recovered properly, suffered huge mental issues, I lived with him for two years but the damage was done. He lost his girlfriend, he drank heavily and eventually lost the house he inherited along with a substantial financial payout in compensation and from his Dad’s pension fund.

He’s still alive at 66 but his life has been ruined, he was physiologically damaged. My heart goes out to all victims of accidents/attacks wether innocent or planned, it can truly devastate families.
The accident on the ground at Tenerife claimed even more lives.
The parents of 2 brothers were killed in the collision.
One brother took to drink to ease his pain whilst the other joined the fire brigade in Stalybridge, vowing to help anyone caught up in any future incident.
Such a contrast in the attitudes of the brothers.

Yes, was the biggest Aviation accident ever, didn’t know about those brothers, how sad.

I worked with a woman who was on this plane,I can clearly remember her saying the day before as she left the office, this time tomorrow I will be on the plane..think she had 3 kids, left without parents..
Nearly all Greater Manchester people, it hits home when you know the victims.

My wife just found out her former colleague was on the flight from India, she was head of nursery where she worked and retired a couple years ago. She was kind and gave Mrs as much time as she needed when she had some personal issues.

583 were killed in the Tenerife runway collision. I'm amazed at the comment about Stalybridge as the Pan Am originated in California(via JFK) and was a cruise charter and no one survived on the KLM.

Ramesh told doctors that he did not jump from the plane but was thrown out while still strapped to his seat when the aircraft disintegrated.

"The place where I landed was low... I took off the seat belt and for a moment, I was scared for my life. But I was near ground level, so I tried to get out," he told DD News.

Seeing the doors of the aircraft were broken, Ramesh said he was able to walk out on foot, even as he saw passengers and crew dying around him.

"I can't believe how I survived," Ramesh said. "I thought I would die. People died in front of my eyes."

That's just pure blind luck he was spared.. but he's probably scarred for life since I don't see him being far away from those that weren't so lucky from that fireball.

No idea, I’ve never heard one. And I hope I never do!

The point is nobody official has confirmed there was an activation of the RAT, nor has there been any conclusive videos or pictures that would confirm as such. The 787 engines DO sound different to other engines and that could quite easily be the sound of an engine spooling down or simply the change in tone from front to rear of an engine. That doesn’t mean I’d rule it out because total sudden loss of thrust is one of the more likely theories imo. But there’s no compelling evidence the RAT was out similar to there being no compelling evidence that the flaps were retracted. This is despite many online sleuths and talking heads declaring that they could tell the flaps were up based on grainy video footage. 787 wings are very, very sleek and even on a normal takeoff the flaps are pretty difficult to make out from a distance. As always, lots of speculation and very few facts. See below for some 787 wings on a normal takeoff…now squint at them and make them blurry and it’s obvious nobody can sat with any certainty that the flaps weren’t out yet.

What we know for certain from a few accounts are:
1. a loud bang
2. pilots saying "Mayday"

Without going into really off the wall stuff..

Is it possible that one engine failed after V1 (the loud bang), but the other engine didn't spool up to full (max thrust) so there wasn't enough power creating lift to keep the plane airborne beyond a few sec?
