Hugo Viana | Director of Football

Just been thinking....we could have Berrada now instead of Hugo. Thanks United!
The key management position at a football club is recruitment. Any idiot could be a CEO of a successful football club. It's a licence to print money.

Made me laugh on the new Inside City video, he was taking pictures with Reijnders on Sunday and couldn’t get away quick enough - something tells me he was balls deep in Cherki discussions with Lyon!

Noticed that too...maybe as he's fairly new to the role & probably needs a bit of Tixi 'soft-skills' in fully embracing the signings which are the fruits of his labour.

I remember Tixi at these events cracking jokes & at times felt like he was signing up a family member, which I think placed most players at ease....plenty of time for Viana to refine this though & I suppose he was stressed in getting multiple signings through in a short amount of time.

Huge shoes to fill. If the first wave of sighing make an impact it will be an excellent start to his role.

He's made a great start. We forget the recruitment of the coaching staff too, which could be just as transformational as the outstanding talent he has signed.

It was interesting to see how Sporting Lisbon builded squads that were able to challenge the pair of Benfica and Porto.
Was it the work of the manager Amorim or their sporting director Viana. Or the combo of both. It was the question I asked myself when we appointed Viana and not much later Amorim joined the rags.
As it is now I think the answer is clear. Early days though, even for Amorim, but I’n happy with Viana and the thought of a thorough investigation who would succeed Txiki.

He didn't seem to want to hang around too long with any of the signings. Maybe he's just not comfortable with the media obligation that comes with the gig?

When’s he gonna start work? Nah, he’s done well in my opinion and not over paid until the dippers.

Watched the Denmark U21 win over Finland and was rather impressed by the Danish forward Conrad Harder. Viana took him to Sporting last summer, probably with an eye to selling Gyokeres and having a replacement in situ. Clearly has a good eye for identifying young talent and forward planning, which bodes well for us.

I just hope he doesn't score a last minute goal. I can't imagine the Aguero moment with this guy instead.

He has a big rep back home as a spotter of young talent.

He will have a huge job until the end of the transfer window.
We need that change in the team that we have been talking about for months.
No favorite players please if he is not good, he should leave doesn't matter what he is done in past.
