Grealish left out of the CWC squad (pg34)

I can't believe how old, drawn and haggard Jack looks in the latest pics of him, he looks more like 49 than 29.

There's definitely something not right with his lifestyle or mental/physical health for him to be looking like that.

There are people who train hard and play hard it ain’t good for you body

I've never seen people make excuses for a player as much as they have done for Grealish. It's honestly fascinating how many people have such a strong positive or negative reaction to him, considering the attention has always been disproportionate to the talent.

I hope he gets a move and his next club appreciate him but time has proven me right with Grealish; he was never good enough to warrant the fee, his wages or to be one of the first names on our team sheet.

Hard to call it a mistake when he played a part in winning the treble but nobody can convince me his role couldn't have been filled by an academy player or a £20m signing.

Absolutely. It's like he thought he made it and could just enjoy the rest of his days without working hard. Not an elite mentality.
You don't get a body like that without working hard.

Now he might abuse it with drink, fags and shagging what he can but the guy must be working hard in training or at least the gym.

Bottom line, Pep doesn’t want him because he said he wants players who can play three games a week!

Just look at his game stats while he has been here; it tells you everything and why Pep has had enough of him!

Grealish has been here four seasons and we have played 233 games; he has started 83 games in all competitions, played 7087 minutes, and out of 148 Premier League games, 13320 minutes he has played 6133 minutes!

The whole thing has me confused to be honest, People making posts saying things like "Pep destroyed his value" others saying "Jack is a great player", If you ever needed proof that the saying "The heart wants what it wants" is true, just look through the pages on this thread. You would think we were talking about centurions Sane or Sterling reading through this thread or prime Yaya, and the crazy thing is that these players who performed at the highest level get thrashed and torn down easily by the same posters building Jack up to some kind of legend status. Human psychology is a very interesting topic.

I was hoping when we bought him he would become one of our legends, sadly though he's faded out over the last 2 seasons.

Sound lad though :)

If Foden wasn't good enough to fill that role, I very much doubt another academy player or a mediocre 20m signing could do the same job.

In those 4 months which won us the Treble Grealish played like he was at least 50m good. Scored vs Arsenal and Liverpool and played well vs Bayern and Real.

It's not the lack of talent that hampered his career here, it's character and professionalism.

So for 4 out of 48 months he played like he was worth half his value?

Just pointing out that saying he was like a 20m player is wrong.

Yes, he should have done much, much better. We are desperate to add quality English players and make mistakes in the process. Guess there are only 3-4 non-City English players who could be firm starters for us, the likes of Bellingham, Rice, Saka... Palmer was sensational for about 18 months at Chelsea (form dropped in the 2nd half of last season), but I hope at least one from Foden, Cherki, Savinho and Bobb will be better than him.

Grealish is great at controlling games when we're ahead and need to hold onto a lead. But as a starting left winger he's obviously not top class.

The W/C is coming up - and if Grealish has any hope of making the England squad, he needs to transfer, since it's obvious that Grealish is not part of our plans going forward - i.e., if Grealish is in our squad next season he'll be a squad player, rarely starting.

This puts a lot of pressure on Grealish to transfer - at the same time Grealish is on huge wages. Any transfer/loan will almost certainly see Grealish on a reduction in wages.

So it's down to this - does Grealish want to remain at City drawing a huge wage - or does he want a chance to feature for England in the W/C on reduced wages?

Maybe an exaggeration on my part but I'm not saying any old £20m player would have played as well but that the role didn't exactly require a spectacular skillset. His job was still to mostly hold his position and be conservative on the ball. He wasn't skinning full backs, delivering outstanding passes or getting on the end of chances. He was a facilitator for the difference makers.

According to ChatGPT, Man City win rate with Grealish is 77% compared to 70% without him

For me (Win%) should be the most important stat
It’s one of the weakest as there is no context. Win with Grealish vs Ipswich lose without v Liverpool (just hypothetically) you see the problem? Same with Manager win rate. It might be of interest to the fans but the clubs don't use it at all, not in isolation anyway. Stats like On ball value and progressive passing are very useful to clubs though. OBV was one of the reasons we bought Grealish.

Your final sentence sums it up sadly. He is a genuinely likeable lad and people really want him to do well because of that, but genuinely elite level players are ready to go again and again. The reason Pep has consistently won trophies is a relentless hunger to keep doing it. I think Jack achieved all of his football dreams in winning the treble, and I didn’t begrudge him the huge bender he then went on. But, you then have to be ready to go again, and he seemingly hasn’t got back there. The caveat though is the robbery his family suffered, that must play on his mind every time he is asked to travel and it can’t help. It is a sad situation.
