I had read that the optional 1 year extension to Gundys contract could be triggered by either party and it was the club that triggered it.There are lots of players in America for the CWC whose futures are up in the air. Wouldn’t read into his involvement there too much. It’s not definite (like Grealish, or Walker), but highly likely with recent developments, that he leaves. His contract was also renewed by an automatic clause, so not an active decision by the club to prolong his stay. With the direction we’re heading, I think younger, more energetic midfielders will be necessary. He’s been an excellent player for us over the years, but Gundo just doesn’t have the legs for it anymore.
I must admit that I thought at the time it was so we could ask a transfer fee but that seemed unlikely.
I agree obviously. Someone has to go.
