Middle East Conflict | Netanyahu orders strikes on Gaza (p1161)

Like many of my friends, I believe in the existence of two peoples.
The Palestinian people are currently held hostage.
The solution must begin with the removal of Hamas, which is, of course, operated by Iran —

followed by mediation and the creation of a buffer zone that neither side enter

The Palestinian people used to work and live in Israel,
but they gave in to terror and crossed every human boundary and moral value on October 7th.
Encouraging answer. I think many of us can see that Hamas (and Netanyahu) need removing before any progress for peace can be made. Did you or do you have any Palestinian friends or do both sets of people not meet?

Not meet since 07/10
But with the Israeli Arabs we friends
I have many Arab friends

We live together throughout the year,
enjoy eating at their restaurants
and even as Manchester City fans
we meet up to watch games together at the pub.
The leadership and politics are not the people themselves.
Unfortunately

People defending Israel always wheel out Hamas, conveniently forgetting they were foist upon Gazans by Israel who were doing the old divide and rule thing
The French resistance and the ANC and numerous other occupied people resorted to tactics we would consider unsavoury to get rid of the Nazis, Apartheid regime and others.
They were called freedom fighters whereas Hamas, Hezbollah are terrorists for having the temerity to offer resistance to our boys the Israelis.

Sorry, I'm going to ask another question!

Do you discuss the conflict with your Arab friends? What do they think?

Of course we talk — they hate Hamas no less than we do.
They live with us in peace, and the madness harms their lives just as much.
By the way, 80% of Israelis are not Ben Gvir or Smotrich,
and Netanyahu isn’t exactly popular since October 7th.
In short, despite the tension in the air, people are talking.
Everyone wants one thing: peace, quiet, a calm life.
Conversations about when and how we’ll fly to watch City —
that’s the routine we all miss.
I hope that with a victory over the Iranian threat,
we’ll return to normal life.

Thanks for that, very interesting. Let's hope that a peaceful solution for both you and the Palestinian people can be found.

Hamas were democratically elected in 2006. Now Netanyahu and the far right definitely went for the divide and conquer agenda, but, Hamas had the chance to build a prototype mini Palestinian state but instead built a murder state. I hate what is happening to the people of Gaza but until Hamas are defeated there will be no way forward. I also think the Oct 7th atrocities was a huge strategic mistake for Hamas, Netanyahu was being hounded out by the Israeli people, huge demonstrations against him pre Oct 7th. Hamas played directly into his hands, without them he would now probably be in prison.

I'm sure most of the Middle East thinks that a victory over the Israeli threat then they can return to their normal lives.

You don't get to play the moral high ground after bombing other countries unprovoked and starving citizens in Gaza to attempt to move them on.

And it's frankly disgusting that you and others think there are any moral equivalences here. Israel is a terrorist state.

Someone did suggest 2 separate threads and it makes sense.

Firstly following Israel's attack on Iran they are now at war, as unlike in Gaza, the Iranians have the means to respond.

Secondly while this war captures the interest of the belligerents and the wider world, Israel is quietly getting on with the slaughter in Gaza.
If we have a thread for every different country or entity israel attacks it will take up half the forum

Yes, of course that’s also Israel’s fault
that Arabs build without permits and using unregulated construction methods,
because everything is allowed for them.
Genocide in Gaza?
This is a people that still holds our hostages,
a people that ran, looted, raped, and took part in the October 7th massacre,
a people whose children learn to shoot and to hate by age seven.

The people of Gaza are the Hamas human shields. Hamas know if they release the hostages they (Hamas) will be killed systematically one by one, just like the Nazi’s we’re rounded up, one by one.

Someone didn't get the memo. You are not supposed to say out loud why a six year old girl was killed by 335 bullets.
