I want to see him in the same team as Ait-Nouri asap and see what the chemistry/movement is like between the two of them on the left side.He has huge potential. With Marmoush, Foden, Reijnders, Rodri, and Cherki supplying him with those balls inside the fullback, he could be devastating this season. Incredible physicality.
I have my doubts both he and Marmoush can play simultaneously. He has huge potential. With Marmoush, Foden, Reijnders, Rodri, and Cherki supplying him with those balls inside the fullback, he could be devastating this season. Incredible physicality.
Couple of nice off ball runs and late arrivals in the box, good crosses and long switches, that was a bit different from usual. Reijnders and Ait Nouri could be key to unlocking Doku's potential. If you surround this guy with the right players you really got yourself a nuclear weapon.
Hope he didn't get injured before the sub.

If Doku could consistently pass/cross when leaving his man dead on the wing - or indeed consistently deliver a shot on goal when one-on-one with the keeper - he'd be awesome. There's a little bit of that "Cole Palmer" arrogance and self belief (not to be confused with the Bellingham arrogance) that's now showing in his game and I love that. It's like he's finally realising that he's a Pep player and that's not something every player can say. He's here because Pep wanted him here, that's the mindset you need to succeed at this club. Players like Phillips had that dumb starstruck look like they weren't sure what they were doing here or if they should be here.
Sometimes we underestimate the importance of the psychological aspect of football, it goes way beyond physical fitness and prematch instructions. Keep it up kid. Double digit assists should be the benchmark this season.
It's a lack of composure as he wants to quickly take advantage of the man he's just beaten. If RAN ( yes I know, but it's better than TAA) can overlap and pull the attention of the defender, then I believe Doku might just have that extra second of composure required to make the decisive crossIf Doku could consistently pass/cross when leaving his man dead on the wing - or indeed consistently deliver a shot on goal when one on one with the keeper - he'd be awesome.
Doku is one of the best - if not the best - at beating a defender one-on-one. The problem is that after having done so, Doku's final product - either a cross, a pass to an open attacker, or a shot on goal - all of these have been extremely disappointing.

The above isn't meant to take away from Doku's performance versus Wydad - which was excellent. It's to make clear why and where Doku needs to improve if he's to remain in out squad long term.

Agree with most of that apart from i don’t think his actual shooting or certainly finishing is that bad. That’s the part that Savinho really needs to improve. With Doku it’s more not getting into the positions enough. Sterling didn’t become a great finisher but after a while his movement and timing of his runs was top class and then the goals flowed. If Doku could consistently pass/cross when leaving his man dead on the wing - or indeed consistently deliver a shot on goal when one-on-one with the keeper - he'd be awesome.

Alas I became a football fan circa 2010.When you have had the pleasure of seeing Peter Barnes on the left and Denis Tueart on the right ripping defences new ones on a weekly basis it's hard to get excited by any of our wide men.

Although Man City has been my favorite club every since - and will remain so until I die - I did not have the pleasure of watching Barnes or Tueart.
I did however watch Bayern's "Robbery" pair kill it - and that's what City should aim for. Doku and Savinho are light years away from that pinacle.

Hopefully with a more fluent team this season it will help Doku. He obviously likes it to feet so he can go at his man but the run in behind like what lead to the first goal yesterday could be very useful. Obviously that relies on one him looking to do that and 2 the midfield looking for the quick pass. We should have the players to that.
There is literally no winger pair out there on that level. Not even 1 current winger out there is Ribéry or robben level. Maybe you should accept that this is a different timeAlas I became a football fan circa 2010.
