Middle East Conflict | Netanyahu orders strikes on Gaza (p1161)

Looks like Russia was prepared to throw Iran ander a bus to prevent Trump also getting arsy about Ukraine.
A Trump who has his eyes elsewhere and who doesnt give a stuff about Ukraine Is better than one who gets interested in Ukraine because Russia is providing support for Iran.

Really difficult position all around this I think.

The unfortunate fact is the IP how to build a nuke is widely available and the engineering needed is well within the capabilities of any competent engineering company, let alone a state-sponsored effort.

All you need is fissile Uranium and getting from 60% enriched to the 90% level required is "trivial", far far easier than getting to 60%. With the same centrifuge equipment that got them to 60%, they could get to 90% in a few weeks, and a bomb at the same time.

So whilst bombing Iran is fraught with danger, so is doing nothing.

If anything I think if Iran can get one they’ll bloody use it now, after all they like to be martyrs, so if Israel retaliate with the same they won’t be that bothered?

From Iran

Apart from saying they were fully working with the IAEA, that seems a fair summary.

A message to MAGA. You didn't vote for this.

Nothing about the extent of damage.

A reminder that Trump did this at the instigation of a genocidal war criminal.

And from a NATO country.... was that just coincidence?

Not exactly an easy position for Starmer to find himself in, is it ? He's called for calm and de-escalation. If he condemns Trump he's threatening to destabilise the whole NATO alliance and US-UK relations.
Trump has already destabilised NATO.

No need for condemnation. Just don't justify it.

And in the future, maybe they will not make them public while there are nutters around who would use their reports as a cause of war.

We live in a post-truth era, unfortunately. Nothing any neutral body publishes, factual or otherwise, actually matters when certain politicians can manipulate the narrative so effortlessly.

The IAEA is just doing the job it was set up to do - which is monitor different state's use of enriched uranium. While it has said that Iran's actions are troubling and telegraphing their intentions, it has also been unequivocal in saying that diplomatic solutions are the only realistic path forward and that bombing nuclear sites doesn't really solve anything, is dangerous and so is not the answer.

Of course, any regime will just take the bit of that message that best suits their agenda. I'm not convinced if their reporting was more secretive, it would have deterred Trump doing what he's chosen to do. He's shown time and time again he doesn't need any official logical reason to act like a twat.

Fortunately, whilst making a nuclear bomb is “easy”, making it small enough and delivering it the 1,000 miles to Israel before detonating it, it very, very difficult.

“I want to thank and congratulate prime minister Bibi Netanyahu,” Trump said. “We work as a team, like perhaps no team has ever worked before. And we’ve gone a long way to erase this horrible threat to Israel.”

Sad. Two world-class liars and psychopaths; & in the opinion of one of them, no one, I mean no one - perhaps - in human history has worked more as a team than these two.

FDR & Churchill? Weak. Not like Trump & Bibi.

The only people doing nothing to ensure Iran complied with the IAEA were the people who stopped the deal they had and wanted instead to bomb the place.

Interesting that neither of them face a free press in their respective countries.

If you are in the middle of negotiations the last thing you need is the Yanks attacking the country you are negotiating with and you definitely do not come out supporting such attack and then calling for peace and *checks notes* negotiations. It is a doom loop of stupidity.

We have at some point to stand for something and if UK-US relations take a bit of a hit then so be it. At the very least say nothing or maybe tut about ‘unfortunate developments’ and then urge for peace and negotiations, but fuck me have some self-respect, Starmer.

The US president thanking and congratulating the ICC war criminal.

All others better be neutral and detach from these two lovebirds

Will we see another 911 sort of attack
When Trump was elected the odds of such an attack increased dramatically. He’s a clown who appointed other clowns and let that complete prick Musk destroy agencies he had little or no clue of their role. Michael Lewis describes much of the sheer incompetence, arrogance and reckless ignorance in Trump 1.0 in “The Fifth Risk”. This time that risk is much greater as Trump has sacked competent agency heads and replaced them with incompetent loyalists. Rory Stewart who knows a thing or two about the inner workings of the security agencies said his biggest concern was a dirty bomb in a big city. Unfortunately I think it’s when not if.
