The Squad planning thread

Problem with that the numbers just don’t stack up. We need to lose 3 non hg players otherwise they won’t be registered.

Aside from Gundo I don’t see any obvious departures.
Don't see him as particularly obvious now given his recent comments especially. It will intriguing to see how they eventually refine the squad.

May sound a bit mad given he has only joined but I genuinely think pep would keep Gundo over nico g

sometimes, sad to say, the future does not resemble the past.
That's evolution for you. We went through this wondering how we'd ever replace Yaya, Merlin, Sané, Kompany, Aguero, Fernandinho & now KDB.

We didn't replace them like for like. We evolved with what we had, & those who replaced them became legends in their own right.

think the solution will be loaning the young players :(

When we were deep in the centre back injury crisis a few months back, Pep’s priority seem to be to replace injury prone players. It would seem perverse if we loaned out mostly young players but retained the older ones with poor fitness records. We could find ourselves in exactly the same situation again, particularly given the extra workload caused by the CWC.

The problem is that only KdB was at the end of his contract. I suspect Pep would like to move on players such as Grealish, Stones, Ake and Kovatic but they can’t be forced to move and Stones has just said he wants to stay.

The club’s main negotiating lever seems to be that it’s the WC next year and those players will want game time

It's easily solved. Tell these players privately that they're not in Pep's plans, & will spend the season getting splinters in their arses.

That should clear their nostrils & turn their attentions to getting game time elsewhere in time for next years' World Cup, that frankly I couldn't give a fuck about.

We have 7 CBs, two will start two on the bench & 3 will be left out

I think in order to avoid the injury situation again we'll go with 5.. especially since Gvardiol can cover LCB and LB, Khusanov can cover RCB and RB.

The HG situation is a lot more forgiving than the foreign player one.. 4 foreign players have to leave as we have 21 and need to trim it to 17.

Dont think its as simple as that. Stones for example, will probably get in the england team whether he plays next year or not. What he won't get is 200k A week anywhere else but City. i doubt he'll get anything but a pay as you play contract, and probably for a bottom half side. So he'll take his chances, I reckon.

Also I don't think club and pep might not be on same page about every player, club might want gundo out for example. But if he refuses to go, he can probably feel that in the end pep will give him minutes... So he can play chicken with Viana, because pep loves him and will probably buckle no matter what viana instructs him to do.

Grealish is in a weak position because he def wont go to world cup if he stays, but that's not true with a chunk of the other guys. Kovacic will play for croatia if he gets 0 minutes next season, ditto akanji and switzerland.

I think we'll get stuck with a lot of these guys, and Echeverri, Reis, Khusanov and Maybe Bobb will go out on loan to compensate.

Seems like we’ve gotten ourselves into a bit of a mess really, if we’re to go with a wingbacks, that leaves 7 for 2 starting spots.

Stones has just said he doesn’t want to leave, Akanji has 2 years left, the two new boys won’t be expecting to leave.

Ake is our only other left footer so he’ll get games at LCB with Gvardiol, and Dias can play there.

But then we have 5 for RCB. Which just seems daft.

We’ll have at least 3 very unhappy players unless a few of them get injured, which tbf is quite likely. One or two won’t be registered in the champions league.
