Club World Cup - Summer 2025

Money doesn’t always equate to status.

Anyone telling themselves it isn’t meaningless is only lying to themselves.

If I had a choice between us winning our first match v Wolves or the CWC. It’s the 3 points every single time.
Beating Wolves vs winning the whole CWC tournament?

Hand over the trophy please!

The $4.58 earned by Auckland City should see them as the top side in New Zealand for several years.
The problem with tournaments like this (and others) is that simply qualifying gives access to money that skews the domestic games. Other examples are Debrecen and Valetta dominating locally even though they get knocked out of UEFA tournaments in the qualifying rounds.
Auckland are splitting their prize money with the rest of their league.

It's not getting the coverage it should because the usual suspects aren't in it. If they were it would be the greatest tournament ever. I'm quite enjoying it, probably because we're winning, but there's been some great games. Crazy to think if we win it we've as good as paid off our summer transfers with the prize money.

I'd rather be able to sing that we're the champions of the world for the next 4 years.

They could just about buy two postcards and stamps to send back to NZ with their $4.58 winnings!

and then in twenty years when people are talking about what teams have won this perhaps you will talk to a PSG fan who says “we won the World Club Cup in 2025 we were the first ever true World Champions ” you can look down your nose as him and say “couldn’t care less we beat Wolves 2-0 in the first game of the season”. The french guy will be put in his place

It's not meaningless for the club, Pep and the players. If you think otherwise, you haven't paid attention. Did you watch us last night, how happy Pep and the players were?

It might be meaningless to you and some other folks. That's fine. You are a bit disconnected from Pep's team and most players then.
It's not meaningless to plenty of us fans either, it's a tournament that is in it's infancy but will only get more prestigious over the years, just cause it's getting ignored mainly by the bellends in our press and the fuckwit fans of the usual suspects (don't be fooled they'd love to be taking part) , you can see teams and fans from other continents are seeing it for what it is and what it will become, i was originally sceptcal and of course it is about FIFA squeezing every penny but to be the first ever club world champions in a multi team multi continent tournament will be sonething, even if the old traditionalists don't like it and no fucker likes change, this tournament in a few decades will probably be the ultimate club trophy to win, just some of us old cunts can't see that yet.

Well, what a trip, started in new york 2 weeks ago,3 nights there then train to philly, match and 3 nights, the obligatory rocky steps, next flight to Atlanta, tonight's and match, fabulous stadium. Next coach trip to Orlando, shite where hotel was, no bars or decent restaurants but mile from ground, sunbathing by pool and match, what a game, totally outclassed juve. Now back in new York after early flight, then homewardbound tomorrow night.3 wins brilliant and lads really clicked

Absolutely. I keep saying that the tournament will draw big interest in the final stages. A semi between City and Chelsea would be a hot topic even for English media.

A final between City and, say, Real will be more watched overall than the CL final.

Those who don't get it are being in denial or a bit slow to understand what's happening.

The old World Club Cup was pretty meaningless but the winner of a 63 game competition between 32 clubs can credibly claim to be the best club size in the world. I like the footballing basis to this competition.

When this was announced I thought it would be a joke but it turns out this competition is exactly what the boys needed. The normal early season growing pains won't be nearly as pronounced after they've gelled like this before the season starts.
I think it will mean we have a stronger start than we normally have but will tire towards the end of the season.
Hopefully we build up enough of a lead by March so it doesn't matter too much

Yes although I think they were mainly happy about the performance. The feeling of “we’re back”, that we could put last season behind us.

I’m sure that the longer we progress in the tournament the more important it will feel. The first two games definitely had a pre season vibe about them. Now it’s more serious
