Pep Ljinders appointed as assistant coach | James French joins as set-piece coach (p15)

This tournament has actually given us a proper pre-season compared to last Year imo, hopefully we dont burn out over the season because I think we will start very very well this time round
Will the players get a break after the tournament, and how many weeks?

They will get three weeks at some point depending how far they get. They get to the final it’s four weeks away from the Wolves away fixture, they will be finding fitness in the first few fixtures. The size and depth of the squad will come into play for managing that.

Noticed a couple Klopp tactics we are using, going long to Haaland, but the difference to going long to him before is that when we've done it this tournament the wingers know exactly where to go. Similar to how Mane and Salah knew when Alisson went long. It makes our long ball even more dangerous.

Must be Lijnders who's showed the players that. Its so similar to how Klopps teams would get up the pitch quickly.

I don't see any similarity to that way Liverpool played under klopp. Sounds a bit fanciful. Pep has made some tweaks but it isn't so we play like Liverpool.

We started very well last year, at least in terms of points if not performance, only time will tell how pep can manage the players over what is going to be an extremely long season.

It's hard to imagine the new team have made many changes to our play yet. But to me the big difference is they look like they have energy and are invested. Whether it's Kolo laughing or speaking to the players or Linders taking notes during the game and speaking to Pep. I'm just seeing more energy from the new management team. Maybe it won't make a difference who knows but it looks better and makes me feel better. Lillo just looked like he couldn't be arsed which i'm sure wasn't the case.

Winning the domestic quad, the real treble and 4 English Top Division titles in a row while breaking records along the way
I'm clearly referring to last season

I'm excited to see how our fullbacks will play - Definitely one of Liverpool's strengths going forward in recent years and should be possible to implement something similar here. This should make wonders for our wingers as well so they don't have to attack on their own against 2-3 defenders and will have a possibility to play it out wide to a fullback that can whip it in once in a while.

Love this. He definitely seems more energised this season!

We are certainly moving the ball quicker and are more direct than we were last season. I think Haaland will be sensational with Marmoush/Cherki just behind him. The signs were there last season with Chelsea and Newcastle at home (probably our best displays last year). I feel very optimistic for this season so far. We will still take risks and make some stupid blunders of course but I am sure we will outscore most teams.

And its just classic press nonsense mate. Everything new is fantastic and revolutionary and positive. Everything from last season was terrible. But its all fixed now. We beat an Egyptian team and the worst team in the competition outside literal farmers, and only nearly got countered about 6 times so everything is great and positive and it was all their fault you see. Because they "didnt communicate the managers thoughts enough". Imagine getting slagged off for not telling other people what someone else thought who literally speaks to people themselves. Maybe Pep should have communicated Pep's thoughts?

And if we dont beat Juventus then we get knocked out by Madrid, what does he write then? How its all falling apart and Pep needs a calming influence.

Bringing in a set piece coach a few weeks ago has not changed our set pieces at all. I'd be shocked if he's been able to run 3 sessions between the necessary pre-season fitness and tactical work. He hasn't even had time to do anything. But we win a header so now he's a genius. I saw someone praising Pep L the other day because a City player was pressing. Because hes a Klopp guy right and someone pressed so its his influence right? The fact that Pep Guardiola basically invented modern pressing and City have been the best pressers in world football for almost a decade doesn't matter now. Its all him. And Kolo. Apparently we've brought in Kolo Toure because he was at Liverpool. The fact that he's been working for us for ages as Oliver Reis assistant is purely a coincidence, it was the 20 minutes he spent as a player, not even a staff member, under Klopp apparently.

Its just lazy. None of City problems from mid season have gone away. They might go away, given time on the training pitch and if Pep doesn't go through another divorce, but people are getting ridiculously carried away in terms of how everything is fixed now based on two new staff members in a staff team that has about 30 people in it. Jack Gaughan and the like love to write these stories because they excite people and their sources get to air their gripes. But the reality is that no one person changes anything. If we score a corner it doesn't mean James French is a genius and if we concede one it doesn't mean he's a fraud. People need to be patient and stop falling for these obvious "need some daily content" non-articles.

Most of you must have had training sessions as a kid right? You understand how this works. You don't just magically become amazing at something because a coach changes just like you don't magically become Albert Einstein if your math teacher changed in school. You may well do better over time. How many sessions did it take to get a single new idea communicated to you? 10? They'll pick something up quicker because they're professionals but you don't hand down an entirely new pressing system or set piece routine in one session.
Sack Lijnders.

Absolute clockwork

If new set piece coach can at least eradicate us conceding goals from our own corners or free kicks then that would be a start...
Obviously not made any difference here......yet

Such a relatively easy change to make..? Why can't they see this continuing danger that fans
can see and talk about in the stands?

Tell you what, every corner seemed to result in a clear chance on goal during the CWC.
