Post Something Interesting

two sides of the same coin science and religion.

= this is what is true.
you must believe us.
we cannot really prove it but it is true.
have faith in us.

I understand what you mean and in some cases followers of science have blind faith in things.
However, scientists don't believe their books unless there is evidence to support it and when contradicting evidence is presented their view changes. As opposed to someone that holds a religious belief that is presented with contradicting evidence they will often dig in and argue.

Example.... ask scientists why the sky is blue and they will explain it to you with facts, ask a religious person and they will say 'because that's how God made it'.....without any proven facts, just their belief.

there is no proof that the big bang happened.
there is no proof of dark matter.

2 fundamental things taught in schools as being real.
just like religion.
we have no proof but trust us we know what we're talking about.

religion is what it is.
there is no way to prove it is wrong or right.

science is constantly being updated.
i.e. what was considered to be true has been proved untrue.
along comes a new theory to replace it.

it's all about faith.

the higgs boson is called the god particle.

there are theoretical particles that cannot be proved.
they tell us to believe in them.

and no matter what a scientist tells you,
the sky is not actually blue.
it's simply the way sunlight interacts with the atmosphere

The big bang has never been presented as fact, it is a hypothesis.

You're cherry picking..... why not mention the million things science has proven like electro magnetic resonance or thermodynamics or how refrigerant absorbs heat when compressed ?

And I'm looking out my bedroom window and yes, I can confirm...the sky is blue.

Epistemology. An important branch of philosophy, the theory of knowledge or a massive can of worms!
One view holds that things are as we perceive them, so if you see the sky as blue, then the sky is blue.
See Ayn Rand.

I rely heavily on subtitles due to hearing loss. The subtitles are not always accurate. My current favourites are:
‘Trump sycophants’ rendered as ‘Trump Sicko pants’. And
‘Ron DeSantis’ rendered as ‘Rhonda Santis.’
Many a true word.

The universe is believed to be 13.8 billion years old and the observable universe stretches as far away from us as light can travel in the time since the universe was born. As such, you might assume that the observable universe stretches only 13.8 billion light-years in every direction. But because the universe is constantly expanding, this isn't the case.

When we observe a distant galaxy or star, we are seeing where it was when it first emitted the light. But by the time the light reaches us, the galaxy or star is much farther away than it was when we saw it.

Using cosmic microwave background radiation, scientists can work out how fast the universe is expanding and, on the basis of the rate being constant, the observable universe has been calculated to stretch 46.6 billion light-years in all directions.

Crewed spaceships, like Apollo, reach speeds of around 39,400 km/h (24,500 mph). At that constant speed, it would take around 27 thousand years to travel one lightyear.

There are estimated to be between 10^78 and 10^82 atoms in the observable universe. This is a vast number, often described as between ten quadrillion vigintillion and one hundred thousand quadrillion vigintillion.

An average 70 kg (150 lb) human body contains approximately 7 × 10^27 atoms. This is equivalent to 7 billion billion billion atoms. These atoms are primarily composed of hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen.

Atons are made up of subatomic particles including protons, neutrons, and electrons, as well as smaller particles like quarks and leptons. Quarks and leptons are currently considered elementary particles, meaning they are not known to be composed of smaller particles.

So here we are, back at those electrons that stop all matter from touching.
Think I preferred when you were cracking jokes.

Gas that!
I’m on the other side of the world and it’s definitely grey.

let's not squabble over god x

Professor Simon is getting nearer to what happened at the Rendlesham Forest incident. *famous UK mystery UFO (maybe) encounter.

It’s now over 70 yeas since Roger Bannister ran the first sub 4-minute mile on 6th May 1954. To date, it is estimated that over 2000 men have achieved this feat.

Eamonn Coghlan, in1994, was the first man over the age of 40 to break 4 minutes.
In March this year New Zealander Sam Ruthe ran the mile in 3.58 - at the age of 15

By the 1700s a mile could be measured accurately to within a few inches and a John Harrison watch could measure 4 minutes to within 0.0009 sec.

In 1876, a Pawnee runner, Big Hawk Chief, possibly became the first person documented to run a sub-four-minute mile. Army Captain Luther North, clocked the mile at 3 min 58.

On 10 October 1796, The Sporting Magazine reported that a man called Weller, undertook, for a wager of three guineas (£391 today), to run one mile on the Banbury Road (Oxford) in four minutes, which he performed two seconds within the time.

Despite the advances in female athletics, no woman has yet managed a break the 4-minute mile (current record 4.07).

I am moving this week to a smaller home ten minutes away from my current one which we are selling. I walked into the movers’ office to pick up some boxes and talk about scheduling. And what should be on the owner’s shelf but a Manchester City football on a pedestal! Turns out he’s a huge supporter and has been for years. He’s originally from Bermuda (and as such is a big Goat fan) and grew up playing footy there as a child before emigrating here and eventually starting his business.

What a very nice surprise!

Like it or not, it's days are numbered.
