45 | Abdukodir Khusanov - 2025/26

Refuse to believe the lad is not putting the work in training and the lads not getting any game time so how can he prove himself
Maybe he doesn't look as good as the others in training? He needs to earn a place. Starts by being the best defender at training - starting to think that shouldn't be too difficult at the moment, so if he can't do it...

I understand the sentiment but I’d rather he be the best n a Saturday when it matters than be a superstar in training.

Possible, and if so then Akanji is using all his energy for training because he’s shit in the games

I still wonder whether there is a concern as to how referees will react to his robust challenges. Particularly with this morning’s ref and histrionics of the opposition.

I'd love to know why Pep is so reluctant to use him. And Gonzalez, and Reis
Because he's shit? He looked terrible in a few of the games he played last season. He'll get a few games in the Carabao but that might be his lot for next season, unless we have another injury crisis.

That's a fair point. But he could have been used in extra time for his pace alone. That would have helped enormously especially as he would easily cover the hole on our right hand side which Al Hilal exploited.

Didn't he do that when he won Player of the Month, then we never saw him again? What more does he need to do?!

something strange around all our January transfers. did Pep really want them? time will tell, but simply cannot see anything for them than very limited role apart from Marmoush and even he has to produce good numbers to keep his game time up.
I don’t think he ever did. He consistently said he wanted ‘his players’ back, and since they’ve returned to fitness it has been those, by and large, in whom he has shown trust.
Buying three unproven centre-backs all at once was odd at the time and only feels odder now.

I feel like Pep must dislike Khusanov’s game on ball because his off the ball play is made for this system where our CBs are exposed and have to defend large spaces. Khusanov is tailor made for that. So there must be issues in possession that Pep isn’t happy with at this moment.

Tbf he won play of the month when nobody else was performing and there were a few out with injuries.

It does confuse me a bit too.

I'm left with him just not being that good - and if that's the case, then he's been a very poor purchase.

I half think we bought him in case any of our few remaining fit defenders got injured, but now everyone's back, he can't get a look in.

It's not the way to build a squad though if that's the case.

Another complete was of money on a player Pep quite clearly doesn’t want. I could understand the lack of use of Phillips, Gomez and Nunes (in midfield) when they were bought as they were just outright shite signings.

Khusanov and Nico G. At least look decent yet already have been completely discarded for players who have let us down the past couple of years.

Really? Can't say I agree with that. Yes, his first few minutes on his debut weren't great, but I thought he was okay. He certainly isn't shit. Like others have said, maybe Pep sees flaws in him in training that we don't get to see.

He was player of the month when he had a run in the team. He was poor for his first 7 minutes against Chelsea and after that I thought he was great.
