If he continues with Bernardo and Gundo in the middle he will. Gundo on one of their attacks was dreadful jogging back. Attack side they can keep control but the defensive side is why we conceded counter after counters.

To get the best out of Haaland we need a bit more chaos. Play Cherki. Play Marmoush. Lose the ball. But let's have 4 defenders who can defend or at least are told to play a bit deeper. So Khusanov plays as he's quick. In Walker's old position. Doesn't cross the half way line. Ever.
Gvardiol is not that fast but he's out best available centre back. Alt Nouri who knows, but as we don't have a LB presumably he plays. Dias is not the CB for this. Mad to say it but we probably do need another.

Maybe the other Pep might suggest this to him, doubt he’d fucking listen though, be ok though soon have Kolo Toure as manager and we can all relax a bit more
 
Very disappointing to see Pep still shoehorning the same old names into the team when we’ve signed all the exciting hungry young players, Bernardo and Gundo making up the engine room, and then he panics and brings Ake and Akanji on at the first sign of danger. Surprised he didn’t bring Stones on for a run out too at 4-3 down.

Dont really care about this club world cup but it was an horror show from Pep, worked so well against Juve he had to change everything back to last season standards. Bernardo and Gundogan in midfield, inverted fullbacks, Akanji as an RB, Khusanov on the bench watching their counter-attack like my cat looking at a bird

Presumably inverted fullbacks suits our two worst wide players Doku and Savinho.

Whereas Cherki and Omar who are infinitely more productive are better suited by overlapping fullbacks.
 
Pep never learns from his mistakes. It's gone beyond arrogance.

He's got the new players to work with, at a plastic 'tournament' that provides ample opportunity to work on/build his squad, and what does he do....? Sticks with old pals, old ideas, and the same old outcomes

Everything that we've seen in this pre-season points towards Pep not seeing eye to eye with Hugo Viana. If that's the case, Pep's days are numbered.

He's already stayed two years too long imo.

NEVER will be sacked. However this Era is now over and pep should have left with it. Wasting another upcoming season now playing all the old guard.

They played well against Juventus with overlapping fullbacks. It’s not like there‘s outside wingers out there who still get support from their fullbacks. Also there will countless scenes where savinho was free and our midfield refuses to play the long ball and rather played it safe. Marmoush even started to stop doing that knowing he won’t get the ball anyways. I counted at least 6 times when savinho was free on goal and set Rodri or Bernardo chose to pass is back to doku

Viana has no prior relationship with him if this continues into the league season and we have a similar run as last year I don’t see how viana won’t want to pull the trigger or even walk himself
 
Hoping Klopp's bloke can get him to adopt the surprise tactic of playing to our strengths with our best side. Making one or 2 alterations when needs be - but not the wholesale, hope it works, changes he's been doing. Doubt he'd listen though.

Didn't watch last nights match because I had to be up for work but great players in the past (with still some part to play in the squad) we will be on the end of similar results for the forthcoming season if Gundogan and Silva start together against any team with any kind of physicality or pace.

I fear we will lose Bobb, Kushanov, O'Reilly through lack of meaningful game time and all three should have been on the pitch last night, but for some reason Pep either doesn't fancy them or is being to loyal to the likes of Silva, Gundogan and Akanji plus Savinho.

I would rather lose Pep than the three youngsters above ......plus I'm sure there is a very good player in McAtee that Pep has never really played in his true position.

Pep has been unbelievable for City but I'm afraid his arrogance is getting in the way of some of his decisions.....including maybe not fancying some of the new DOF buys.

Here's hoping some of his new backroom staff are not 'yes' men.
