Will we win the league this season?

Most Premier League sides park the bus, and play on the counter. High line does not work in this league any more. Carry on like last night and we will struggle for a top four finish next year.

Tbh I don't know. We have to wait until the season gets going before we know how the team will be.

Anyone who thinks they know we will be shit, know that Pep has been found out (yawn), they don't know what they're talking about just like all of us. We have to wait and see.

The signs are good though. Mass changes to the squad and they are already looking sharper than last season.

Hard to see us winning it at this time. We have bought very well in the first window but I am still concerned about the frailty of our back four. Nunez has done ok but he is not a full back and keeps getting caught out. Our centre back pairings (particularly when Akanji plays) look slow and keeps getting exposed on quick breaks from our opponents. It’s not helped by the suicidal high line that Pep insists on playing. It cost us so many goals and points last season and It could be the major factor in us not challenging for the title. It definitely cost us the game last night.

We need real full backs. We need Stones and Ake back fit or we need to replace them and we still need to move a few players on.

Not unless we improve the defence, stop playing Gundogan and Bernardo, especially at the same time, and become more ruthless in front of goal. Oh and sign a right back.

Pep is obviously the elephant in the room and beyond criticism for many on here. I think another manager could have the current squad challenging, but Pep seems to have this obsession with his favourites who just aren't up to it anymore.
Who would you get as ideal replacement, and when?

No, personally I think we will finish with no silverware again. It happens, however I'll still be behind team, seen and lived through far worse times with City.

VAMOS CITY

Would love it to happen but there's something wrong at the club.
I think we'll have an exciting season, lots of high scoring games but i think we'll fall short of winning the title but finish in the top 4

I don’t think the players like the highline, they know they can’t cope with it and Pep is hanging them out to dry with it. When we played Juventus we had overlapping fullbacks and it fucking worked last night both held back, when Akanji came on he had a great chance of going past Savinho and getting behind the fullback with a pass but wouldn’t go forward. Ali at leftback hardly ever went last Doku to deliver a cross to the big lump up front.

We were nursing Rodri back and Kovacic has had an op. on his foot. That's both DMs out.

The concern for me is that Stones is still out, and he's our lynch-pin in central defence. We can break teams down but we also concede a lot of chances. We are going to need Rodri, Kovacic and Stones. And if Stones cannot get fit, we need another central defender. We bought Ries and Khusanov but they might take 1-2 seasons to come through.

I find it quite incredible that we can spend the money we have on players that might come good in a couple of seasons.

These players need to hit the ground running this season and the major under-performers of last season like Foden need to get their finger out of their arse and step up.

Khusanov is quick but is out of favour, we need a defender in the team with real pace with the the high line, and getting done like the 2nd goal last night.

This tournament would have been ideal for bedding Khusanov in. Pep just seems to favour the old guard, most of whom won't be here in two years time.

Let’s just remember we finished last season quite well and will be much better at breaking teams down.
I think that masked quite a lot. We were garbage at Southampton and blagged a win we didn't deserve at home to Wolves. We got results, but let's not pretend the performances were much better than they were when we weren't getting results. The same failings were there. It's just that the woodwork was our friend over the closing stages of the season.

Up until the early hrs of this morning it all looked promising, but our defensive weakness got exposed yet again, so no we prob won’t win the league next season

Think we will be in with a shout. I don't see the loss last night the same as other bad losses last season.

In the games where we were well beaten last season there was very little we could do about it. Last night was just poor quality in both boxes, whilst every inbetween was good enough (alright the attack fell off 2nd half). We could and should have been out of sight.

I saw enough in the Juve game and last night to think we'll be much better next season.

We still need a right back and a goalscoring winger and we need to sell.
Juventus maybe a false dawn
