82 | Rico Lewis - 2025/26

Guys chillout, Yes he has his weaknesses in his game but don’t forget he‘s still a kid, only 20yrs(!).
Imagine how big the pressure is on his mind. Some of you act like he‘s a finished player. He was thrown in very young, look how Foden was treated by pep with his young age where everyone was buzzin why he doesnt play more often but could be look Like Rico at that moment.

Rico need to learn, earn experience and solve the obvious weakness. The good thing is, I think he is willing to learn and is a very intelligent player. Some Clubs below the top 6 would love to get him in. And he could turn out to be a 80+m player we would look at to bring in.

Trust in Pep, if he loves him, there is something of a quality we don’t see.
No one hates Rico Lewis but if isn’t good then he isn’t good enough and that’s not a slight on him . Pep thinks he’s good enough but even he gets it wrong .

If Rico did reject the opportunity to go with the u21’s then you can’t fault his commitment to the club although unfortunate given his sending off and ban
I think for McAtee it was a wise decision on his behalf. Got plenty of game time and tv exposure
Not sure what the story is with NicoG , Cherkee and Rico staying with the club instead of going to the CWC. Maybe its a club decision
Delap is another.

Club want to give him a new deal according to Jack Gaughan. Seems pretty random to me

What's random about that? We want to tie down a rare and very valuable club trained asset long term. Makes total sense to me.

He's 20 years old and played nearly 100 times for a multiple title winning side, an England international, versatile, homegrown and club trained. Show me somebody that meets that criteria valued at less than £70-80m

Suspect you are right but we handed him a new deal post treble. I reckon they are anticipating interest from other clubs

I'm guessing that new deal put him on a relative pitance, a new contract to reflect his elevated status is fairly common for us. Also never any harm in rewarding the players without being in a position to be forced to, it goes a long way in instilling loyalty.

It’s a bit odd given that he signed a 5 year deal in 2023.

I presume he will get a wage increase too. Very bizarre the obsession the club and pep seem to have with a very average player imo

Not sure, some hate over players here is really frustrating to read. I don’t think its always the players fault. They get overcoached in many games. I think Pep is also a problem sometimes with weird selections of how to play. I still think he is the best Coach of the world. But not perfect. No one is

Then also I think Rico is a very good player in the making and can do the job with his different profile of a player who suits us.

We have to chill over opinions splashed out so fast. I have the feeling after last season some guys here are furious.

The players that Chelsea are now paying 40m - 60m for were ours before they developed into what they are now. Just allow talent to develop, recognising that 20-year-olds are not the best version of themselves that they will ever be. And yes, I absolutely believe that he is good enough to play with us.

Talking about an extension. Not sure the next manager will like him though especially when it’s not some manager who plays this inverted fullback bullshit

He is a midfielder and we know his best position is just out side the pen area! Even pep said he is good in that area, that area he will get game time not a lot but if he is happy with that he will sign a new contract if not he will be sold..

Well said. Some of our fans have lost all patience with our academy players. If they have a bad spell, which they will or they aren’t world class instantly… they’re not good enough.

He’s a brilliant young player and I think people have forgotten that. Brilliant news if he’s signing a new contract

I don't see where he fits into this team. ..not good enough at full back...not good enough in midfield. Only advantage is that he counts as homegrown
...however on the pitch he is steps below good enough
