Right back options

Nunes is not a rb .
we cannot go into a new season with him has 1st choice .
He will get away with the odd mistake he is prone to against the lesser teams .
But when it comes to the likes of Liverpool ,Chelsea & Arsenal he will be found out & punished .
He needs to move on & be insulted that Pg thinks he is to thick to play in midfield lol!
We haven't had much good fortune when we have brought wolves players to our club( Steve Daley, Nunez) hopefully the leftback will be a better purchase .
As of 6 months ago, he is a right back. Where he's played previously is meaningless, hes being used as a right back, hes playing very well there, so hes a right back until hes played elsewhere.

Players switching positions is nothing new. Yaya Toure was bought as a holding midfielder that could also play centre back, yet in his best ever season, he played as a 10 for us. Gravenberch wasnt a DM 12 months ago, he was an attacking midfielder that couldnt buy a start yet the dippers just strolled the league with him playing as a 6. Declan rice was a centre back that earned a £100m+ move as a holding midfielder yet plays for arsenal as an 8.

Why would we not have a CL spot without him? The revisionism regarding Nunes is astounding.

If we had a healthy Walker or someone that does not shit the bed on a counter we wouldn’t have been bantered by clubs all season. We are seriously suggesting a failed midfielder should be our starting RB?

To be fair to Nunes he has done his best and deserves praise for his effort. His level is starting for a poor / average City side. Very similar to Delph and Zinchenko. I want to see us win the CL again, to which he is an obstacle if he starts games.

Was in the top 3 performers for the entire back half of the season. Wins us the game against villa, makes the late opener against Everton in a tight game we didnt look like winning until then, creates the opener against fulham, makes a couple of crticial blocks/tackles when we went down to 10 men against bournemouth to stop them getting back into it before things evened out and every time he was left out, we badly missed him.

Delph/zinchenko's level was starting for a poor city side? You think the centurions and the domestic quad winning sides were poor city sides? You wouldn't have said we could win the CL with John stones playing in midfield before we won the CL with John stones playing in midfield.

You have clearly made your mind up on a player seemingly based off one game 6 months ago and you refuse to see the excellent work hes put in since then that would make any reasonable person admit they were wrong to make such a quick judgement.

tbf so many of the threads on player performances are based upon historical evidence and bias.

Some of them are probably from the same individuals who hysterically post on the matchday threads.

Best to stay away imo.

Pace, power (which i think is superior to Nunes) goal threat, defensive nous, aerial ability, the fact right back is his natural position.. Missing anything?
Nunes is considerably faster than Dumfries. Thats not an opinion either thats one of the few things that has a definitive answer to it. Dumfries recorded top speed is signficiantly slower than Nunes'.

You think hes stronger than Nunes, fine, he is a powerful player, i dont agree he's stronger than Nunes but either way, I asked what he brings that Nunes doesnt. Given nunes isnt 9 stone and 5ft 2 we can surely agree nunes' power isnt an issue. same with his height, he's vastly taller than most fullbacks and again isn't an issue.

Hes scored more goals than Nunes but as I said previously, Nunes has a better goals and assists per minute ratio from fullback than Dumfries has as a wingback.

Its funny how Nunes gets slaughtered for being braindead at times, have you guys actually seen dumfries play? He's twice as braindead. His technical ability is really poor and his final ball is atrocious that makes walkers delivery look competent.

For all the main reasons people want to see us replace Nunes, Dumfries is even worse in those areas. Its a model example of people going purely off name and reputation.

Spot on

Like who ?
Nunes is good as the two of them for starters. Perhaps missed a trick with Frimpong but again it is down to how he can adapt to the Premier League. Frimpong still does have time on his side for that and has been in our Academy for 9 years so not completely a huge step.

Dumfries is a top 5 RB, yes. For many even top 3. the only one clear better than him last season was Hakimi that’s it and even he didn’t have a better CL campaign than Dumfries.
If he was he would have been snapped up. Nunes has improved a lot since the derby.

So how come he is still at Inter Milan at 29 years old?
They won the league when we won 4in a row. The could’ve done back2back but they dropped 1 point.

Why was Grealish still at side like Villa at 25 ?
Why was Dinho still playing for Shaktar at 28 ?
Why was Marmoush still playing for Frankfurt at 26 ?

Again Hakimi played one season at Inter before being signed by PSG and he is the best RB in world football; and was 24 before he made the switch.

This is the same thing people said about Cherki. If he was so good why hasn’t anyone signed him
Cherki is still a very young player and would have been snapped up with his reputation. Similar potential to Wirtz. Especially with them being relegated.

"Still at Inter Milan", a team who has played in two of the last three CL finals.

Good player in "plays for good team" shock.
Not that good. One player who looks good in Inter's set up but would be totally exposed in ours. Nunes has earned his chance.

And then ?
He’s also a Real Madrid reject. Who cares
If he’s the reason we win the league and the UCL idc how old he is. The aim of the game is to win trophies.

If the qualities we need for the RB are
Decent defending
Ability to cross accurately
Strength
Aerially strong
Attacking output
To be able to hold width and overlap/underlap
Enough pace and stamina to track back

Whichever player ticks the most boxes should be signed

Look I don’t think you need to get this upset because a part of the fanbase rightly sees Nunes as not good enough.

I did not mean to imply that the team Delph or Zinchenko played for was poor. Instead both were similar failed midfield projects that were carried by better players. I wanted to emphasis the current team that Nunes supposedly “excels” is poor. There is no denying Delph and Zinchenko were redundant players, just like Nunes. To no surprise we won a treble with a properly organised backline.

I will say it is cheeky to claim he has won us points especially after his incredible performance against United. We can agree we are both biased with our opinions.
