Sheffield Wednesday on the brink… | Enter administration (p30)

It's a weird thing isn't it? i mean for absolutely no reason whatsoever I've always preferred Wednesday, maybe it's a natural reaction to the Utd/red thing I don't know.
Yeah, I mean mine is cos I’ve got good mates in Sheff and for some reason they are all Sheff U supporters.

The summer has been an absolute sh*tstorm, to the point so much has happened I couldn't be bothered to update on here as I have in the past on EFL matters.

May wages not fully paid
June wages not paid to staff/1st team
HMRC bill for June not paid
Manager expected to be announced as new Leicester City boss later this week
All coaches are out of contract
No Pre-season friendlies scheduled
No new Kit expected
North Stand needs work before season start otherwise a safety certificate will not be issued
Season Ticket money from early bird sales (I bought mine in January for the cheapest price) was most likely used before last season ended to prop up the finances
Any player who has not received May/June wages can give the club notice of contract termination, if the club doesn't pay what they owed within 15 days they can leave for free. I understand several players have exercised that right (good for them)
Work to upgrade the training ground has ceased due to money.
We are under an embargo for failing 2 EFL rules, this would be removed if outstanding debts are settled by Chancer or a new owner
We have a 3 window transfer window ban, and can only sign freebies or loans that do not involve a fee (including agents) with a maximum wage of £7k a week.
Chancer has turned down 2 bids for the club, he originally wanted £300 million (what a joke). The club is worth £40-50m at most, especially as the club doesn't own the stadium, Chancer does after he sold it to himself to navigate PSR rules in 2017/18 (he fucked that up so we got a 12 point deduction, reduced to 6 anyway which ultimately relegated us in 20/21 season)

Everyday there are more stories coming out of the club, football seems a million miles away at the minute, I'm more concerned if we actually start the season. It has Bury vibes about it.

Bottom line is we're royally up sh*t creek without a paddle.

If we do start the season I could see a team made up of U21's and journeymen players that nobody wants, and even they won't appear until after September 1st.
Heart breaking

I used to mix going to Wednesday and City in the late 70s

Notably during Jacks reign even got a season ticket in the North Stand for the first season back in Div 2

Remember being dragged to Jimmy Mullens testimonial one night by a mate in Stalybridge sat in the North Stand pre KO wondering why the fuck I’d bothered and to my shock out trot City to warm up lol

hope you get it together your a sleeping giant when i started following city you were a big club with hurst and warhurst flying

Be great if Oil was struck in South Yorkshire
Wednesday almost a mirror image of our history plus great supporters when I watched them in the late 70s third Div regular 26k + and over 48k for a third Div massacre of the pigs Harry Haslams fucked it up again
We even had very similar riots at Oldham I was at both as it happened
In 1970 we even tried to keep them up got a penalty at Hillsboro and Doyle allegedly missed it on purpose doing Tony Coleman a favour Wednesday were that shite we couldn’t throw the game no matter how hard we tried
When I watched them when big jack was there a few ex blues played for them
Ian Mellor Denis Leman and Jeff Johnson

Nicky Weaver - a life long Owl too

Always had a soft spot for Wednesday, the name caught my imagination as a 6 year old at the cup final in 1966 though don't remember anything about that game. Sad to see such a big club in so much trouble. Hope they manage to sort it out.
If memory serves me correct I think it was against Everton and the score was 3-2

First cup final I watched
Remember the two hit wonder Trebilcock winning it think Owls were 2-0 up at one point
Trebilcock never heard of before or since that final just checked his Wikipedia he only played 11 times for Everton

I have no issues with Sheffield Wednesday, and for the sake of their followers, good luck to them. But surely the most weird second name for a football club after Hamilton Academicals. Any others?

David Hirst is still a **** though.

1 Jan 1990 will be forever etched as a traumatic childhood memory.

:)

Drank 8 glasses of Champagne at breakfast, scored a goal in a 2-0 win and went in goal after an injury to Kevin Pressman.

That was the last top flight game not to have a camera televise any of it.

The reason being the camera operator thought it was a 3pm kick off whereas it was an early kick off
