14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

I don't think nico G is a world beater, but giving Gundo that non negotiable trigger for an additional season was truly the dumbest thing I think the city board has ever done lol. We could have still renewed him without that option, but more importantly he could have left without a fuss this summer, pep be damned. Now it might cost us a 50 mil signing.

Cost us how? My guess is, Gundogan and Kovacic leave Gonzalez stays and with Rodri, Reijnders and O'Reilly across 2 positions plays plenty.

Selling Nico G but keeping Kova and Gundo would be ludicrous decision making.

If the latter two aren’t going, Nico G shouldn’t be sacrificed because of it.

I love them both, but Nico is younger and class.
Obviously this is correct but the thick manager sees it otherwise and rather sacrifice both Nico and wins to play people he likes.

Yeah, I don't know how many minutes he got in those games, but it clearly goes against the narrative that he's being ignored and never played
It proved nothing if most of those were a 2-3 minute cameo, the biggest indicator on if pep trusted him was the cup final, last minute injury to Kova and still no minute for the guy who was supposed to.have been brought in a Rodris no 1 back up.

But by the same logic, he wouldn't have trusted him for those 2-3 minute cameos either. I guess we'll just have to wait and see

Not sure if Gonzalez is top class….but would any world class DM come to City knowing they were going to be a back up to Rodri most of the time.

If Gonzalez is sold we go into this season in a worse position than last before the Rodri injury.

Rodri is not going to play virtually every game like he did 2 years ago, plus who knows how fit he is going to be.

It was crazy to limit Gonzalez’s playing time in the CWC……unless we have another player lined up.

Gundogan and Kovacic are definitely not the answer and are a year older and although I would like to see O’Reilly tried as a DM, the fact that he wasn’t given a run out in that position in the CWC, almost certainly means that isn’t the plan.
