Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

How many more million posts parroting the same unthinking mantra?

I paraphrase:

“Pep has been marvellous for us for a number of years … (true)
“ ERGO his powers can’t possibly have waned and will surely return forever…(???)
“The last 12 months should be ignored, along with his reversion to type against Al Hilal…(???)
“Anyone doubting this is a disloyal and disrespectful idiot?”(Fcuk off).

There’s nothing wrong whatsoever in staying loyal to Pep and continuing to believe in him. Where you go totally wrong is in insisting that’s the only valid view and that the past - choosing the years selectively - is a cast iron prediction of the future.

In your headlong rush for post count, you’re too blinkered to see the blatant flaws in your “argument”.

Do you honestly think that repeating this drivel on every page makes it any more than the reasoning of a fanboy? Or that an intellectual pygmy like your good self has the right to berate fellow Blues?

You’ve too fkn much to say, pal. Give your gob a rest before I take the kid gloves off.

I'm not saying what you think I'm saying.

You seem unable to grasp the difference between thinking in possibilities and thinking in probabilities. Tried to explain it to you but it seems above your understanding. Good luck, intellectual giant :)

Intereseting to see ,what Pep and his coaching team figure out before the season starts. Are they going to make some changes to the way we play or try to keep doind the same thing with those same old players. I really hope they will change some things.

The thought process of some in this thread:

1. I don't understand Pep's tactics and why he plays G and B.

2. If I don't understand, then, objectively, his actions don't make sense.

3. Pep is past it.

Well, what about:

2. If I don't understand what one of the best managers is doing it might be because football is a bit more complex than I imagine or because I'm too lazy to think what his reasons might be.

3. Pep is likely fine, the problem lies in how I think.
Wow. Thanks for that. It all makes complete nonsense to me now.

And to you, mate. Despite what I said, I have no doubt you’re a good and loyal Blue.

This is a bit hysterical. Not sure why people complain or whine so much these days. It's not like we have gone 30 years without a title or 12 years for that matter... 12 months ago we were champions and 9 months ago we were top of the PL table, unbeaten in Europe.

A dip in form was expected already after the Treble. The first sentence could have been written before 23/24. Hindsight is precious. Had we signed more players in the summer after the Treble, this might have disrupted somewhat the team atmosphere leading to missing out on 4 in a row. Nobody can be sure. It's very easy from the outside.

Thing is, no amount of planning can avoid a transitioning season or two. You can't find the next KDB, Stones, Bernardo, Gundo, Walker, etc just like that. Also, you can't throw these players out. They are legendary players and wanted to have another go. Kevin wanted to stay more years... Pep intended to leave, so the building of the new team was planned to happen under his successor.

Mistakes happen. They are costly when you haven't won titles and trophies for ages. Transitioning seasons are unavoidable. In this "disaster" season we did better than Klopp's Liverpool in 20/21 and 22/23 (5th). Not having downs for 4 years is the exception, not the rule. Some of our fans have lost all perspective whining a bit too much. Be happy with our recent (!) achievements and look forward to the next season. Personally, I expect good things to happen. The squad includes top, top talents.
Very difficult to find these players when pep refuses to play them aswell . We may already have the next generation here but picking gundo arkanji and I gonna say Dias because he has been poor over these players is not doing us any favours .

None of Nunes, Lewis, Akanji, Bernardo or Gundogan would get in any top team. Viana needs to clear the decks. And i'm sorry but Savio and Doku are prospects. Both have potential but nowhere near ready to be regular starters for a club like City. Since the treble season we have regressed more than people think.
We've gone backwards at an alarming rate.

Taking too many chances and paying expensive transfer fees for players who might come good is a big risk.

We should have added real quality to the team every season we have won the premier league. Just one or 2 quality additions and we would have been fine. That would have enabled the old guard to be phased out slowly and we maybe couid have gotten another year from KDB, Walker, Gundo, Bernie, being able to compete instead of looking like flogged horses by playing week in week out.

But we got bonbed by the elite Crystal Palace in the final in which we should have won .
Why should we have won? The better team on the day won. There is nothing wrong with admitting that. We can't be the best team every time. Everyone acting like it's end of days has completely lost all perspective of being a football fan.

You can’t expect to be the best team on the day, everyday, but the club will nonetheless set out expectations for each season and over the past year we’ve undeniably fallen short of them.

Last season’s CL campaign was terrible and well below expectations, we should really have won the FA Cup and the CWC was a major disappointment given how favourably the draw fell for us.

At the very least we should made the semi-final of the CWC and realistically the final, and our failure to do so has cost us anything between twenty five to forty five million in prize money.

It’s a business at the day, and these sort of shortfalls won’t be tolerated indefinitely, regardless of past successes. The pressure is very firmly on this season.

Cmon mate we got out tactics wrong and if a team assembled like ours cannot beat Crystal Palace then we might aswell pack in .

Having concerns is one thing, not giving him the benefit of the doubt, saying or implying he's totally wrong and done at this level (yes, there are such posts) is something else altogether. Pep deserves at least the benefit of the doubt.
I agree one can't honestly say he's done. What is troubling to me is someone with his history and knowledge shouldn't need the benefit of the doubt. Some of the stuff he's been doing I can't imagine him not knowing is poor. It's not about the nuanced decisions anymore. It's about the bizarre decisions that are failing and are obvious to anyone with even a bit of football knowledge. Not after the fact. His decisions are being questioned in real time and when it's not working many are not surprised in the least...

Has Pep gone mad, is he deliberately sabotaging the club?

I think he's fine. I think his decisions make sense. It's a bit long to explain. So, let's see what happens next season. My prediction is we'll be better than many expect.

The worst thing is hes been doing it since October and it seems he's learned absolutely nothing. His stubbornness is beyond belief, we've clearly come to the end of a cycle player wise and he's refusing to accept it. The fact Gundogan is even still at the club is ridiculous which pains me to say as he's done so much for us.
Watched PSG v Bayern yesterday. Can't imagine Gundogan being on the pitch in a game like that. Or some others frankly...

In all fairness your blueprint is exactly what we have done over the years when replacing the legends who left be it Aguero, Silva , Kompany,Yaya , which makes it all the more baffling we weren’t prepared to pay money for Rice when available

If Pep keeps it simple as in play his best 11 whenever possible, don't play players in positions they don't belong in, stop with the exotic formations, etc. I have no doubt we'll be as good as anyone. But will he?
Deliberate sabotage? No. Gone mad? Hmmm...

Cannot even say the rebuild has started yet if the same names get picked when the 5 or 6 new players can't even get picked in a glorified preseason tournament.

So basically our fanbase are all clueless when it comes to football. Why watch? Pass the Kool Aid then...

How about why did Pep keep Foden, Marmoush, and Cherki ALL on the bench in a game where Rodri wasn't available from the start? Why not a single sub in an attacking role over the entire 90 minutes? Why bring on Akanji? Can you venture a guess other than Pep must have some super duper complex reason none of us mere mortals could possibly understand, results be damned?
