Manchester Airport police assault trial | Man found guilty of assaulting two female police officers

Nothing on the news tonight instead it was an inquest into the Southport murders .

I have little sympathy for those who posted such things and no sympathy at all for rioters. I agree with what you say, but it’s the inconsistency that these type of sentences raise that I have the problem with.
I totally agree that some sentences for certain crimes aren’t as stiff as they should be. If these people on trial for the incidents at Manchester airport do go on to be found guilty and only get a few years because those are the guidelines then those guidelines need addressing. At the same time, I feel that if someone is going to pull some shit or other during a period of rioting or unrest then they need to realise that stricter sentencing might well apply. Saying that asylum seekers should be burnt alive in hotels - at a time when asylum seekers are being targeted in hotels up and down the country - and broadcasting that viewpoint on a public platform is downright dangerous.

And that's the crucial context that always seems to be ignored when claiming people are getting locked up for posting words on Facebook, as though what they were posting was as innocent as saying they don't agree with someone's politics. I have no issue with her getting 3 years for that, she fully deserved it imo. The fact that sentences for other crimes (like this airport one) are too lenient doesn't change that for me. Just because one sentence is wrong doesn't mean they both should be.

I didn’t swear at you.
I used the word fuck as a pronoun for emphasis not as an expletive directed at you.
If you’re uncomfortable with that then maybe this forum’s not for you.

@Keith Starmer

Can we lock this fella up for swearing online please?

Thanks xx

Yes I use the word fuck occasionally in daily life. Obviously it depends on who I’m with but it’s not uncommon.

As for your point about the comparison between sentencing guidelines, I’m sure there are thousands of what you or I may see as anomalies but I’d rather leave it to the judiciary to develop these guidelines as they are far more qualified than either of us. I really don’t see it as relevant to this thread which is about two scrotes who I’m sure we all hope will get locked up as long as possible.
Fair enough, overreaction by me. Apologies.

More footage has been shown to the jury, this time of the young female officer who had her nose broke.

It was self defence though against the 5ft 2 8 stone officer

Probably a debate to be had at a later date about the value of sending officers of this stature to incidents such as these ….

Nobody knew how it was going to escalate. It probably seemed to be a simple arrest after an attack on the man in Starbucks. They weren’t expecting what they got.
