He terrorised us in the semi finalGoing to spurs, thank god..That level will suit him
Great post. I don’t understand it either how our extremely talented players get slated or how some of our fans have no patience for them at all. It’s disheartening how quickly some of our fans dismiss players from our own academy. It often feels like Phil Foden has become the sole benchmark - as if a young player reaches his level immediately, they’re deemed not good enough. We saw this with Cole Palmer.
I was at the Super Cup in Athens, in his final appearance for the club, and what stood out most wasn’t just his performance - which, for me, was the best on the pitch that day — but the abuse thrown at him by grown men that day in the City section despite the fact he’d barely had a proper run in the side. Just days later, he was sold to Chelsea, where he’s since become one of the Premier League's best players. And yet, some of our supporters have turned on him, despite the fact he never even wanted to leave the club.
What makes it more frustrating is the contrast in treatment. Players like Oscar Bobb are rightly encouraged and supported, but Palmer who was a local lad who came through the ranks was criticised relentlessly. It’s hard to understand.
Similarly, James McAtee hasn’t done any worse than others in his position this season. In fact his output has arguably been better. Yet he’s regularly singled out, while others seem to escape scrutiny. Even Rico Lewis who has shown plenty of promise, gets targeted at both home and away games by a section of the younger fanbase. It's wrong.
It just feels unjust. We should be supporting our academy graduates not turning on them when they’re still developing. The academy is something to be proud of.
That wasn't hard to do.He terrorised us in the semi final
Yep players like Doku and savinho who are no where near as good.Well said. Palmer was a classic case of not getting sufficient game time to improve as a first teamer, he was stifled at City, mainly by us splashing the cash on big name expensive players.
McAtee doesn’t free a space, Grealish would but can see that being used for a right back.Sorry I'm looking at this transfer like with McAtee and Grealish leaving as surely that frees up the space. I know they've not already left but its well known they're not part of future plans. Its a bit different with the non HG players as its not immediately obvious who the players to leave and make room will be
The same Silva that has just been appointed club captain by the manager? Will passengers Akanji, Gundogan, Silva and Kovacic please come to the departure lounge immediately.
Its very important we have a squad of over 30 players lolDepartures aren't as important for this transfer to go through as he's homegrown. Its the non HG quota thats tight.
Think it’s decided above the DOF whether we do bidding wars, and we don’t. Remember Txiki being told by Khaldoon and Soriano in the All or nothing documentary. The guy before didn’t do bidding wars but Hugo might
great post thank you definitely highlighting something that i think is an issue these academy lads will give everything for the badge on the pitchIt’s disheartening how quickly some of our fans dismiss players from our own academy. Blame Pep, stop blaming players who arrived before this scenario played out, Cole Palmer wanted to leave way before because of a lack of playing time.Yep players like Doku and savinho who are no where near as good.
