Manchester Airport police assault trial | Man found guilty of assaulting two female police officers

Think one of those idiots got up to seven years for cutting a tree down so I would expect these goons to get far higher than that but I’m not holding my breath!

There is the possibility that two separate convictions can run consecutively
four years for the headbutt and assault at the Starbucks then five/seven years for breaking the officer’s nose

Wounding requires that the victim’s skin is broken, either on their body or their inner skin (for example, inside their lip) but it does not include the rupture of blood vessels so, if the injury is just bruising, that would not amount to wounding. The injuries involved in a wounding can be less serious than those in GBH.

The GBH or wounding must be caused either with an intent to cause some injury or with knowledge that injury was likely. If it was committed with intent to cause GBH or wounding then the offence is more serious. The maximum sentence for this is life imprisonment.

The offence is also more serious if the victim of the assault is an emergency worker. This covers police, prison officers, custody officers, fire service personnel, search and rescue services and paramedics.

Sentencing

Parliament sets the maximum (and sometimes minimum) penalty for any offence. When deciding the appropriate sentence, the court must follow any relevant sentencing guidelines, unless it is not in the interests of justice to do so.

Grievous bodily harm or wounding:

  • the maximum sentence is five years’ custody.
  • if the assault is racially or religiously aggravated, the maximum sentence is seven years’ custody
  • if the assault was committed with intent to cause GBH/wounding then the maximum sentence is life imprisonment

They havent been charged with GBH though, so none of that applies. They have been charged with ABH

Clowns on here too knitting yoghurt whilst condemning the coppers.

Can't criticise people from certain sections of the public on this forum, no matter what they've done. The mob will come after you.

If a lot of people here had their way early on, these would've walked free and the coppers would be on the dole

Five year maximum, but the second assault was on emergency workers so will be taken into account

It may be a couple of years for the original headbutt and punches, five for the WPC's broken nose and two further years as it was emergency workers

Why is it ABH though, If the guidelines for GBH state "The GBH or wounding must be caused either with an intent to cause some injury or with knowledge that injury was likely" surely swinging your fists into numerous people's faces is done with intent ?

More footage has been shown to the jury, this time of the young female officer who had her nose broke.

It was self defence though against the 5ft 2 8 stone officer

Probably a debate to be had at a later date about the value of sending officers of this stature to incidents such as these ….
Do you think a 6ft bloke wouldnt have got chinned? The same offender punched the officer (who later stamped on his head) around a dozen times-you think he's since just brushed it off?

There were plenty of big blokes who I'd never want near me during a disturbance-because the quality of the officer-their intelligence/experience/ability to function under stress/ability to communicate was far more important than their size.

Also, most people have never been thumped that hard in the face-its not like the telly-it fucking hurts and its fucking scary.

I chased after someone once who I knew was v violent and when I caught up with him he headbutted me so hard I thought my head was going to explode.

This incident and the sword murder in Hainult demonstrate what our police face on a daily basis on the frontline-many of them v young people who run towards danger and put themselves in harms way only to be judged by all and sundry after the event.

Another example-I was always arresting the same youths for the usual theft from vehicles etc-they'd always scrap when you tried to arrest them-one day I went with a female officer (wpc went out with juliet bravo..) and not one of the 7 kicked off..
