Ah, a new Sam Lee thread for the new season...

I actually quite like his work. Sure he's made mistakes in the past. Plus, don't forget he hasn't worked for himself all the time and many stories/angles are given to him by bosses. That's the life of a journalist unfortunately.

Over the past few years he's pissed off a number of other journalists for their blatant hyppcrisy when it comes to their coverage of City compared to others.

In any case there are far worse and more prominant people in the media that deserve criticism.

I've not read anything from Sam Lee for a while. I used to enjoy his appearances on 93:20 until he became hesitant to give firm opinions due to the criticism he would get when a transfer didn't happen etc. I can get why that would be frustrating as you can have solid info but a thousand things can go wrong with a transfer.

The Whatsapp group thing did annoy me at the time. I appreciate him going to educate himself but the group he picked was only going to lead him one way and it was clear which narrative they would advance. It would be like wanting to know more about immigration and only meeting with the national front. Meet and listen to them no problem but also chat with @Prestwich_Blue or @slbsn to get some balance. The club said we would be exonerated so I don't think asking a journalist to give some thought to how and why we could say that is client journalism. You could dismiss the claims or give them some context but at least explore them.

I guess to some extent that would be difficult, as the club weren't saying anything official other than the initial statement, but only going to sources who were obviously pushing a city are guilty narrative felt like he was doing half a job. To be fair no one else was really interested in challenging the narratives they were setting so whilst he was no worse than many but as the City correspondent I was a little disappointed. I didn't necessarily expect him to fight our corner but I did expect him to do a little work to understand what our argument may be and it would have been simple to log on to bluemoon and see what the "amateurs" on here were doing.

There was also the narrative being spread around this time that City had an online army ready to spread disinformation and lead violent attacks on journalists ie City_Rabin! so whilst I can in no way support this claim I do feel it was the arrogance and disdain that a lot of football writers have for football fans that made many people wilfully ignore some of the fan led defence of Manchester City.

Yes. Like Jonathon Liew. Let's call him a **** for 20 minutes so we can all agree on something for once. I'll start.

Jonathon Liew is a ****.

as expected the Uefa FFP punishments died down in English media, Chelsea and Villa got "heavy" punishments, but the level of coverage on it was really tiny and even less articles moralizing about this, of how Villa's fantastic season (I guess the best in last 40 years they had given a CL QF run and almost getting back to back CL qualification) and Chelsea's with two trophies are tainted badly.

certainly more sadness and anxiety about the 115 case and City potentially found innocent, than actual cheaters caught and punished.

says it all.

The Herbert blinking back the tears over the Puma deal, behind a pay wall in the Fail. If anyone fancies delving deeper in respect of the content, crack on, cos I'm fecked if I'm going to......
These are some direct quotes from the article, which the Fail tried to hide behind a paywall, as if anyone would pay to read the bile this **** comes out with. It's not journalism, just pure hate!

their success has been built on systematic financial deceit – cheating, to you or me

their success has been built on Abu Dhabi pumping in vast wads of petrol dollars disguised as sponsorship cash.

115 charges against them.

Puma... despite its largesse, the German sportswear company certainly needs all the help it can get, four months after a 23 per cent drop in its share price

hit with a punishment on those charges of financial chicanery.

(Puma) have been rewarded very handsomely by the Abu Dhabi state.

if City were found guilty of what would be one of the most significant episodes of financial deceit in football history

the spending goes merrily on and the printable version of the message from the club and their sponsors is: ‘Sod you.

Let’s be honest, in the media, City are the big, bad monster that have stopped the hegemony of the traditional Sky influenced clubs. And due to their influence, Sky, and others, have not been allowed to sell the PL, but forced to sell the brand of the traditional Sky 4.

And that’s where we are, where the PL, influenced by the media that pay the bill, have to pander to certain clubs who want to keep control of the funding into their own clubs.

For me, I fucking love that we don’t have anybody who will suck our plums and stick to the tried and tested click-bait of Red Top ball-cupping. It will change within in my lifetime but I can look at these media types, corporate or individual, as fucking idiots who didn’t get on board when the obvious slapped them in the face.

I just hope City start going after these cunts.
