100% agree. Enormous credit in bank. However, I do agree that our signings in 2023-24 (bar Gvardiol) have been well below the standards of the previous 5-6 years. Kovacic, Nunes, Doku, bringing back Gundo are all, in my view, decisions which mean we are where we are right now. The January transfers (Marmoush in particular) and the summer business is promising.

Every team has ups and downs and those in charge are only human! I have trust they will turn it around

As much as I hate to say it, Liverpool’s business to strengthen whilst they’ve won the title is impressive.
 
I'll be honest, if this works out and he becomes a top class keeper for us, that would be the dream. Club trained player, leaves to learn his craft and comes back to claim a first team spot. That's what we've wanted for ages. But I'm not convinced he's there yet.

I don't think they were atrocious. I actually enjoyed them playing, they completely outplayed The Rags, Spurs and Chelsea, they just didn't have the quality at the back to properly implement Vinny's football philosophy.

We dont think hes worth as much as the fee inserted into his sale to ensure we got a favourable deal should we wish to re-reign him. A clause that we sacrificed an original increased transfer fee to have inserted in the first place.
 
I think we are negotiating as there was a sell on fee of 6 million or 25% I think, so probably trying to get that off the 40 mill. Since he's coming back to us. Newcastle were quoted 30 + 5.

Who decides who the top 50 goalkeepers are ? Fees over time and ability don’t correlate due to the fact not every player moves not every player moves at their peak and player values go up over time

It doesn’t really fill your fanbase with confidence if you don’t think your new keeper is worth as much as you thought he was 2 years ago….

Joe Hart was 400k. Imagine if we bought Shrewsbury’s keeper now!

Also some keepers come through youth ranks or are free transfers etc.

Whilst Trafford doesn’t particularly excite me I think it’s unfair to judge him by fee comparison. I think it’s much better to look at his ‘form’ in the PL last time…..

Burnley paid £15mil rising to £19mil, so you’d expect us to have to pay a good premium on that. Maybe about £35mil incl addons

‘Nottingham’

The interest has been very real for a while. And I am told Mcatee prefers to stay in the Prem and Nottingham is viewed as a good destination for both football reasons and distance to family.

Agree. They played some decent football but defensively they were naive and lacked the quality to handle the opposition pressure when playing out from the back, resulting in them conceding loads of chances from individual errors by defenders. I wont pretend like Trafford impressed much last season in PL, but it's fair to say that the way they played was pretty much a GKs nightmare.

And a lot can happen in a season for a young player, especially a GK. People might say Burnley played very defensive but they still conceded 10 expected goals against more than league winners Leeds, and despite that they conceded 14 actual goals less.
No matter how you see it, having a season when you are breaking multiple GK records is an extraordinary achievement, especially when you are only 22 years old. It might not necessarily mean you are one of the top GKs in the world, but you dont do that if you are not a good one. How good? I guess time will tell!
