Will we win the league this season?

If we can solve the right back problem we have and tweak the system to make us less susceptible to an almost guaranteed goal when we’re caught on the counter then we can deffo be in the mix for it.

Unfortunately I’m not sure we’ll do either adequately so I’m expecting us to be in a dogfight for 2nd/3rd spot.
 
It'll be a good race next season. Liverpool, City, Arsenal, and Chelsea all will be improved in terms of their squads. A lot of churn at City and LFC which will make both sides unpredictable. Squad depth will play a factor with all those teams playing CL and PL football. It's definitely going to help City to have title winning experience in the squad and in all areas of the pitch. Our balance of age profiles is excellent too.

Also, I can't remember the last time the team who "won" the transfer window actually won the league.
 
Despite the 3 good signings this summer still think we are massively in the rebuilding stage. Not good enough at the back for me this season. Think we will be in a fight for top 4, and hopefully in the mix for the domestic cups. Not doom in gloom, but just feel like that's where we are.
 
Far too many question marks to be confident about winning the league for me. Liverpool got to be strong favourites at the moment but you never know, decent chance Salah and van Dijk might drop off a bit with an extra year in their legs and Salah bagging a new contract

I was massively confident we're back after the Juventus win but that confidence all but went after we got knocked out by al hilal. With early games against Spurs, united and arsenal we should have a reasonable idea as to whether we've got a chance next season or not by the end of September

Not so sure - Tottenham and Arsenal will be bedding in new players/manager as well, so not much to to be learned that early on, just a case of grab the points if possible and that's it. Like Chelsea last year.

United games are one-offs, not really sure they're ever any sort of benchmark for the bigger picture?

A fair summary. I think we'll be comfortably at least 4th/3rd.

I suspect liverpool will be just too strong.

But we're rebuilding and that requires patience.

Not sure some on this site and elsewhere have that in them though.

Interesting one. On the one hand its been summer 2022 when Haaland arrived and maybe this transfer alone had been a win. Plus Akanji and Ortega. Plus Julian Alvarez arrived. Treble season followed:)

On the other hand we brought Philips, Sergio Gomez and Perrone.

Still I think we won transfer window, because all teams have a mix bag (LFC: Nunez, Gakpo, Melo, Carvalho and lost Mane; Arsenal: Jesus, Zinchenko, Trossard, Kiwior) and nobody close to the Haaland level of success.

We or United: Antony, Casemiro, Sabitzer, Weghorst, Malacia;DD Perhaps Martinez and Eriksen salvage a bit of pride, but overall United had a transfer window that continues to destroy them to this day.

Being concerned about having zero confidence in defence and having patience are not mutually exclusive, though?

Since December - apart from a short false dawn period during which Khus was everybody's first pick in the pre-match threads - there's been little evidence to suggest that either the transfer strategy or any tactical adjustments are particularly focussed upon the defensive frailties. That's why some on here are dreading 'more of the same'.

Attacking potential looks far more promising, certainly.

Agree with this. Liverpool just a bit too strong and if Arsenal sign a striker they’ll go well too.

Our second half of the season was good and having Rodri back will feel like a new signing that happens to be the best player in the world.

It’ll be close but I think second to Liverpool
 
The transfer strategy hasn’t been great seemingly not wanting to spend for certain players whilst signing players which although available it’s not obvious where they fit in. Top 4 is realistic, I just want a return to exciting, football.

It’s obvious the strategy and where they fit. I find it exciting ,not all will work, but if enough do we are set again for years.

Personally thinking 3rd or 4th. A lot of new players to bed in and obviously the 'fast counter usually means an opposition goal' factor that Pep has to somehow solve.
 
Unfortunately not. Liverpool are moving mad and if they add Isak to that then we have some ground to make up. I think we’ll finish second by at least 9 points which sucks. I do however trust the powers that be to rectify it in the following windows
