14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

The fact that so early on there seems to be plenty of noise that he may leave makes it a very odd signing for such a fee
in my opinion it was a panic buy in the first place and got instantly muted from the thread lol. Still think he gets another year ,but why would such a young player want to sit on the bench most of the time ,which will happen if rodri stays fit.

Won’t lose sleep if he does leave - there are far superior players we could acquire for that position. Our recruitment needs to be questioned if he was to go

I can’t really see it this summer though, he’ll 100% be here next season

If the club do want him out it will be incredibly difficult to shift him and his wages for a half decent transfer fee. It will be another Kalvin Phillips situation where we loan him out season after season until his contract winds down.

Could’ve bought Wharton instead for a bit not. What a waste again by the recruitment team or Pep who keeps refusing to use new players.
yeah thats true what we really need was to buy a player that was already injured
football manager at it finest or is it hindsight gift

What I meant that he is playing the same position as Wharton and is more a stop gap which makes it harder to get Wharton .

I worded it wrong above

Wharton wouldnt get anymore minutes than Nico does... He's shite.

Slow and dribbled past more than any of our players last season. Would be a highline hindrance.

It's just baffling to me that you can buy a player and never play them. It's a sign that absolutely no homework was done on evaluating the player prior to buying. Kalvin Philips should have been informative to the folks making the signings that something was seriously wrong with the selection process. I would hate to see Gonzalez become another signing of this ilk. Now, I understand not everyone will be world class. Nunes is not there, but he plays. Even Zinny played a fair amount, and he is lacking in a lot of areas. Is it possible that Pep is too disconnected from the signing process? Surely he knows what he would like.

It's just baffling to me that playing in 17 of the available 25 games since he signed constitutes 'never' playing him

I think it's because he started games when he came and then seemed to be less trusted suddenly. In his last 8 league matches he was benched 3 times and didn't get on the pitch and played 1 minute in one and 21 in another. In the FA cup he didn't play in the final and then a combined 8 minutes in the semi and quarter finals. Didn't play a full game in the CWC while others played a lot more.

Don't believe for one minute Pep didnt sanction this. Another midfield outcast to add the list.
Can't wait for the fallout on here when Pep keeps Cherki on the bench. Then all the apologists will try to rationalize that he must not be good enough. That he was a panic buy. That Pep never wanted him. LMAO

Yeah, man, I don't know if we were watching the same matches, but he wasn't on the pitch a lot, particularly as time wore on. You can mince words and all that, but I'm surprised he wasn't a mainstay, at this point, particularly for the price.

Was it because we had to win games at that stage of the season and the team that was playing was getting the points on the board to finish top 3 and nearly chase down arsenal. Could be.

No. Keeping Nico G. pinned to the bench is not why we were able to finish third. Strawman argument...
