Attacking quickly, with purpose opens up so much more space for everybody but particularly the wingers. Salah the best winger in the league wouldn't be half the player he is in our setup because the majority of his goals come from him isolating a man before the backline can get set.

How many times last season did we eventually give Doku the ball after half a dozen needless passes allowing them to get 10 men behind the ball and then basically ask him to take on 3 men within about 15 yards of space and create something?

Its all about the tactics, the tactics got us a treble and 4 in a row but they've become stale and we dont have the very specific players for it anymore after losing key cogs like walker and kdb and mahrez. We dont need to go buy the best 1v1 defenders we can find because even they will fuck up too, we need a setup that doesnt put our defenders in situations where they're having to defend 1v1 multiple times per game.

I could go on, but the point is, unless you wanna be a dick and talk down City's players for the sake of it, in terms of proven quality we have a better squad, and in terms of depth we have a better squad.

Fully agree – Liverpool haven’t really improved at full-back, at best they’ve just gotten younger.
And while Wirtz is clearly a talented player, they’re also losing something with him. Liverpool’s strength for many years has been their solid and hard-working midfield. All things considered, they lose a bit of control and physicality with Wirtz. Whether his attacking qualities can make up for that remains to be seen.
I do, however, see Ékitiké as a clear upgrade in the long run – but maybe not right away.


As for Arsenal, I don’t think they’ve strengthened massively either.
Zubimendi might be an upgrade on Partey, but that wasn’t really where they needed reinforcement the most.
Madueke is best on the right wing where they already have Saka. Gyökeres could be a real boost for them, but to me, he’s mainly looked good in transition and when there’s space. How will he perform against low blocks?


The main reason I’m optimistic about next season is that the gap between us and Liverpool/Arsenal last season was more about us underperforming than them being exceptional.
Liverpool won the league with just 84 points.


First and foremost, I expect fewer injuries for City this year. On top of that, we’ve made the squad younger and added some fresh blood – which will hopefully help solve what I think was our biggest issue: a lack of hunger and motivation among several players who’ve been here for years and won everything.


Nunes improved a lot towards the end and actually did well.
Gvardiol was a beast once he was moved to the centre.
Foden looks like he’s on his way back.
Reijnders looks like a young Gundo, we’ve finally got a proper left-back, and Cherki looks super exciting.


I think it’s going to be a good season:-)
