Great signing.

Doesn't need to be in the starter conversation, is young with plenty of room for development yet can also pitch in on cup games and lesser UCL games while Ederson remains the starter. And when it's time to make the switch whenever that is, he should be ready to go.

he isn't signing to be a backup keeper.

Even for 12 months

Hmmmm…

So one of ortega or Ederson leaves.

Is Trafford better than either? Probably not.

Hes a better shot stopper than Eddie, but he's way off with his feet.

Not sure how to feel about this one.

Ederson or Ortega need to be leaving for this to move to make sense, and Ederson is the one linked away

David Ornstein is reporting the opposite. Ederson stays, Ortega goes.

Plus tbh, I doubt Ortega stays to be Traffords backup and I don't think he should be starting for us permanently anyway.

If you're not sure, he cannot prove you wrong!
Put it another way then, he hasnt impressed me when i've watched him play.
He's been ok but nothing special. I hope he turns out to be special and fully shows me up for a shit rater of players

He’s better than Ortega already (in my opinion) - and he’s still very young for a keeper, with plenty of scope for improvement.

Better shot stopper, and very good with his feet - which to be fair isn’t Ortega’s greatest strength!

He’s also a better shot stopper than Eddie already, but he’s got some distance to go to be anywhere near as good with his feet.

Eddie is not far off unique in that side of his game though - pretty much any keeper would be a step down from him.

I guess we think Trafford brings the potential to offer us a better balance - great shot stopper, great with his feet over average shot stopper, incredible with his feet.

And I happen to agree with that approach.

Eddie’s shot stopping is a real weakness, which we’re clearly seeking to address.

We'll see on this one. 22 years old and had his best season in the 2nd division. I dont think he's in the position to be calling the shots. Plus I don't see the point in throwing him in at the deep end straight away. He'll get time and a safety net.

Maybe he completely excels in his games and Ederson underperforms and the transition happens quicker than we think, but I sincerely doubt he's being signed with the intention of being a day 1 starter.

Yep, League cup & FA cup games plus any CL dead rubbers (hopefully this season :( ) and the possibility of PL league games. Meanwhile he learns off Eddie.

Yes I don't think Trafford would have come to us instead of Newcastle unless he had been given assurances that he will be number one and I don't think Ederson will be willinb to stay as a number 2. I'll be pleasantly surprised if Eddie stays.
He'll be coming in as number 2 but i reckon he's been promised a certain amount of premier league game time.

Allegedly £35 mill from NUFC so we take away our sell on fee and pay £27 mill.

Or something like that :)
Yiu could well be right but this is from BBC website

City had a buy-back clause for Trafford but also matching rights, allowing them to match any offer from another club.

They have done so following a £27m bid from Newcastle and Trafford has opted for a return to Manchester.
