Great signing.
Doesn't need to be in the starter conversation, is young with plenty of room for development yet can also pitch in on cup games and lesser UCL games while Ederson remains the starter. And when it's time to make the switch whenever that is, he should be ready to go.
How very dare you!
This is great manoeuvring from city, as much as it will piss the geordies off. Burnley will have wanted the 40m buy back from us, somet why negotiate when we could let Newcastle do it for us?
Ederson or Ortega need to be leaving for this to move to make sense, and Ederson is the one linked away
Put it another way then, he hasnt impressed me when i've watched him play.If you're not sure, he cannot prove you wrong!
Hmmmm…
So one of ortega or Ederson leaves.
Is Trafford better than either? Probably not.
Hes a better shot stopper than Eddie, but he's way off with his feet.
Not sure how to feel about this one.
he isn't signing to be a backup keeper.
Even for 12 months
Yep, League cup & FA cup games plus any CL dead rubbers (hopefully this season :( ) and the possibility of PL league games. Meanwhile he learns off Eddie. He’s better than Ortega already (in my opinion) - and he’s still very young for a keeper, with plenty of scope for improvement.
Better shot stopper, and very good with his feet - which to be fair isn’t Ortega’s greatest strength!
He’s also a better shot stopper than Eddie already, but he’s got some distance to go to be anywhere near as good with his feet.
Eddie is not far off unique in that side of his game though - pretty much any keeper would be a step down from him.
I guess we think Trafford brings the potential to offer us a better balance - great shot stopper, great with his feet over average shot stopper, incredible with his feet.
And I happen to agree with that approach.
Eddie’s shot stopping is a real weakness, which we’re clearly seeking to address.
He'll be coming in as number 2 but i reckon he's been promised a certain amount of premier league game time.Yes I don't think Trafford would have come to us instead of Newcastle unless he had been given assurances that he will be number one and I don't think Ederson will be willinb to stay as a number 2. I'll be pleasantly surprised if Eddie stays.
Yiu could well be right but this is from BBC websiteAllegedly £35 mill from NUFC so we take away our sell on fee and pay £27 mill.
Or something like that :)
Some of the "easier" CL games?I was wondering too.
I guess all FA Cup and League Cup for a start.
Hope doesn't leak goals like his namesakes roof leaks water. Can he change his name to Eastlands (or anything Manchester based) as part of the deal? - cheering for Trafford just feels so wrong ……..
