Remember the Football Pink photographers taking pictures of the crowd before the start of a match, always one local football and one rugby league game. The paper put a circle round the faces of half a dozen people in each picture and if you were one of them you went into the M/cr Evening News office on Cross Street and they gave you a guinea.

I remember I use to get a copy of the pink and the green I’m sure it was for horse racing.

When is someone officially an FOC? I always thought it was when you start making trumpet noises when you blow your nose, which I haven't started doing yet. But that seems like the best litmus test to me. Any other signs I should be looking out for?

There is a list at the start of the thread, but apparently 60-65 is junior FOC.

After that, you’re an out-and-out FOC.

IIRC, the Pink was produced by the Evening News and the Green was produced by the Evening Chronicle and they merged in the 60's I think

My mother smoked Woodbines all her life, in fairness she did die at 67 of emphysema. Nothing my dad did to stop her worked. When she retired at 60 , she went to work in bookies. Worst place possible! When I called to see her bringing my 2 children from school & nursery to see their grandma, she hardly had time for us … “They’re nearly off, I’ve got to get this right” she shouted as she chalked the changing odds up on the board with a fag in her mouth. Still good times and I miss her.

We had a rope frame like that at my school which was good fun at the time, and we had a wooden floor to land on if we didn't hold on hard enough.

I'm sure the teachers would have called an ambulance if the worst happened.
