All it takes is one bad year for everything we've done and everyonenthats contributed to it to be questioned. Transfer policy. Players. Coaches. All shit, because of one third place.
We started and finished the season strongly its what happened in the middle that gives some people the jitters. I expect greater consistency this season and to be closer to the leader. If other teams go off the boil or run into an avalanche of injuries I think we might take our crown back.

Not imo mate.

How many times have we seen “we had 85% possession, 25 shots and they had one breakaway and scored from it and we lost 1-0” type posts?

Keeper is there to stop the ball going in, regardless of the type of shot.
How many times has the opposition got behind our defence leaving them with an easy shot?

We don't make it easy for our goalies to have a high save percent. We'd probably have to change our style of play to change that.

Whilst im glad and it makes sense. Im suprised hes willing to go backwards to go foward. Hes gonna be number 2 for a year. Where as others can offer him number 1 immediately

Last season.

Ortega 64%
Ederson 67%
Trafford 84%
Bizarre stats !

The disrespect for Ederson on here is unreal
He’s won every trophy possible he’s got golden gloves he’s an international footballer who has revolutionised the position
Now suddenly a 22 year old who was shocking last time he was in the Prem is better
Let’s see how good Trafford is when he’s facing Salah and Isak etc
Of course I want Trafford to succeed and it’s probably the right time to ease him in but Ederson is arguably our best keeper ever
The notion he can’t save a shot is simply hogwash

He's got to have an anti-Trafford chant.

"Trafford, change your name, Trafford, Trafford, change your name!"
I'd imagine it will quickly end up being the predictable "England's number 1" chant that most English keepers get.

Bit of a perfect signing imo, tipped to be the next england No 1 and having that as the backbone of the team will help massively going forward.

It's also a good indicator of the academy doing it's job in terms of producing for the first team, player comes through, spends some time at other clubs to get experience and we bring them back into the team when they are ready.

World beater Trafford since he‘s been linked to us. Any other club and we wouldn’t mind.
Another lucky HG player.
He’s one of the best young keepers in Europe in my opinion. Just off the back of winning the euros u21 tournament and best keeper in the championship.

Not exactly bad for a 22 year old

To be fair, the team the has won these trophies. Yes, he was part of the team. However, he won nothing on his own besides maybe the golden gloves but the team contributed to that as well.

This isn't boxing, wrestling or athletics, minus relays. No footballer wins trophies on their own, especially the goalkeeper. The argument of "he's won everything" is, frankly, a horseshit argument.

I love Ederson, he's without doubt the best keeper I've ever seen for passing the ball, nobody else comes close but I'm not blind to his weaknesses either.

Agreed it's far more difficult facing top forwards as a keeper but the rest of the keepers in the league face the same players as well each week and Ederson ranked 10th for save % in the PL last season. He's also not a keeper who commands his box at corners and wide free kicks, often misjudgedes whether to come or stay.

I'll add no way is Trafford making an 84% save % if he does become our number 1 keeper though. There's also other things to factor in such as age, fitness, ambition. Let them battle it out for the Jersey I say.

Have to say mate, goalkeeper is there to stop goals, not to assist. Eddie had 5 assists in his time with us, a good keeper can make two saves that may be goals in one match.
Eddies not the best out and out keeper we all know that, he was still decent, but his ability on the ball has been critical in playing how we do.

If it’s him we are moving on then this is a bit of a meh signing for me.

If it’s ortega moving on then I think he’s a decent number 2.

We have so many areas to sort, it’s a bit frustrating a back up keeper is the topic of conversation really.

The save percentage is complete bollocks as a stat, it would only be useful if every keeper faced the exact same shots which obviously can never happen. We dominate the ball, we dont face a lot of shots as a result, teams arent having regular speculative 25 yarders that are easily collected against us. We leave ourselves wide open like no other side and as a result end up facing near impossible situations for the defence and keeper and finally, ederson plays the sweeper role, a hefty chunk of his work involves stopping a chance before it even gets to a shot for him to save, everytime he sweeps up, he prevents a 1v1 and likely goal yet gets zero credit for it in these shots saved ratios. Its just yet another example of a meaningless stat used completely out of context.

As for ederson not commanding his box, really? That's one of his best strengths, hes superb at commanding his box, always has been, our change in defending set pieces in recent years has seen us leave ederson surrounded, unable to come in favour of rigid zonal marking and run blockers, it's not worked very well for us hence why we now have a new set piece coach. Let's see how he sets us up. I'd be surprised if we dont go back to utilising Edersons strength in commanding his box getting the opposition boxers away from him and letting him come for crosses again.
