No idea re Ederson’s save %, but even without looking, I can say with extreme confidence it’s nowhere near 85%.

85% is what you need. A keeper who is a **** to score against.

Never mind all this playing out from the back nonsense. Keep the ball out of the net.
Who knew Brian Clough is a blue?

:)

I agree btw.

There's a stat that measures the quality of chances - I cannot remember what it is called.
Ederson has a relatively low save percentage but faces the highest percentage of chances expected to result in goals. That bears out what we see on the pitch.
I am delighted with the signing of Trafford, but no goalkeeper is going to be able to save the gilt-edged chances we conceded last season. A new season beckons, and I think we will be both more resolute, and more efficient in our goal-scoring. It is all in the mix called excitement.

Depends Trafford is a few inches taller than Ederson. Look at Donnaruuma the best keeper in Europe last season some of those shots he got to because of his length. Courtois the same. Height can make a massive difference in goal

Nonsense, stats are bollocks only when it suits a narrative, and if you don't think Ederson regularly flaps at crosses then you're blind as a bat.
No, stats are bollocks when they're isolated. You're also literally using the stat to suit your narrative. By your isolated metric, Robert Sanchez is the best shot stopper in the league, is that something you believe to be true?

There's another stat that compares shots saved to expected goals and ranks the keepers by how many goals were conceded above or below the expected based on the quality of the chance. This is a stat you'd expect any keeper who was a poor shot stopper to rank badly in right? Edersons second...

Would be interested to see that stat as it backs up a lot of what I see.

No keeper is saving 80% of shots faced playing in our team imo.

What I've always thought with Ederson is, he saves shots that hes expected to save. However, in the 8/9 years hes been our keeper I have very rarely left the Etihad thinking 'thankgod for Ederson, without that performance we wouldn't have won today'

To be fair, the team the has won these trophies. Yes, he was part of the team. However, he won nothing on his own besides maybe the golden gloves but the team contributed to that as well.

This isn't boxing, wrestling or athletics, minus relays. No footballer wins trophies on their own, especially the goalkeeper. The argument of "he's won everything" is, frankly, a horseshit argument.
Would we have won anything if we had kept Claudio Bravo? I agree with you saying it is the team that has won the trophies but it is Ederson who has allowed Pep to implement the style the team has used.

I don't disagree with him allowing Pep to play the style he prefers. I just think using the "look at all the trophies he's won," is not a legitimate reason to not sell or buy a player.

You’ll know something has gone very wrong when you do leave the game thinking that.

He's done that plenty of times. I tend to make the comment in his match performance thread when hes made a points winning contribution that it will be forgotten within a week and back to claims of him never making saves.

Its not happening every week because we dominate games and we're not expecting our goalkeeper to be the match winner all that often but the stat mentioned in that post you quoted for saving shots you're not really expected to save, has him second in the league so that directly suggests that he does indeed save things hes not expected to save and has done more frequently than all but 1 other keeper.
