UEFA Women's Euros | England win final on penalties!

Attendances in the WSL are actually down, maybe this win will spike them again who knows.
I don’t think it helped by changing the fixtures / season to play alongside the men’s season/fixtures. Kick off times 6pm or 7pm on a Sunday night, some games, ridiculous idea.

Yep, they did fall to the floor a bit too easily, and make the most of it ... not too mention they show a fair degree of aggression when they need to, they don't like to lose possession and they tend to hunt in packs and 'bully' teams to get the ball back when they do .... but there is absolutely no doubting their ability and quality, both as a team, and individually, some of their football is outstanding ..... most of us feared the worst for the Lionesses yesterday purely for those reasons.

England stuck to their task, battled gamely, and held firm, but Spains excellent fitness levels and threat pushed us to the limit, right to the end of extra time ....... it was a superb achievement to beat probably THE best womens national team in world football.

The look on the Spanish girls faces as they watched England pick up their winners medals and trophy was priceless, they looked absolutely shell-shocked, they have a degree of arrogance, and they had totally EXPECTED to win the game, no doubt about that ...... that painful memory will live with them forever, because they are a team who rarely suffer defeat.

calm yourself down
I'm calm. It's unfortunate, and telling, that was your only response as opposed to disputing it factually.

However, in society, and especially on social media, some people attempt to ridicule when they have no other response.

Good day.

We had those fixture changes 4 seasons ago too, the WSL attendances are just going down.

It needs to be unleashed, cut free from the men's game to stand on its own with a fresh look at sponsorship and as you say fixture lists that suit the fans.

Then we will know if it's going to flourish or stay a bolt on, I suspect it might just take off a bit more.

To be fair, a lot of the statistic of the attendances being down comes from Bristol city being relegated and being replaced with Crystal Palace. Bristol had one of the highest average match attendances when they were in the WSL and Crystal Palace attendances are quite a lot lower so that does explain the statistic that’s being thrown round a little bit. I’m not doubting it could be lower for other reasons such as silly kick off times etc. I’m sure winning the euros back to back will create another boom period in WSL attendances

Didn't 3 of the 4 go to Barca and Bayern. Hard to compete with them, surely?
Good argument.

The WSL was created with 'financial responsibility' being the main driver.

Wages are better in Spain, France and Germany.

If this helps them be set for life from a short career I don't blame them.

Also because they are playing with some of the best players in the world that improves their game as well as the national side.

Went into my daughter to see what she wanted for breakfast this morning. As soon as I opened her bedroom door she screamed "CHLOE KELLY!!!" before I could say anything.

This is what I'm subjected to 24/7 so you can forgive me getting annoyed when everything turns into the Chloe Kelly Show.

But on reflection, anyone that can get my kid that excited about football deserves my respect!

London for the shopping or Spain for the sun, maybe women footballers have different priorities than men.

You have to factor in that they don't earn anywhere near as much, and a better contract offer for them can make a huge difference. It's not like the men, where you can wonder what the real difference between 150k and 300k per week is.

City pay decent wages though don't they? What are our wages like compared to other clubs/leagues?

How to be Gareth Taylor on the internet.
The best part is a, since removed, post where he says he wouldn't want his daughter to be like Chloe Kelly. I'd feel sympathy for her if she turns out like him.

That said, she may be trying her best to not end up being like him. Kids "get it" sometimes and very hard not to end up being similar to their parents.

Exactly this, I'm afraid. At present City Women are not at the top in the pecking order. And Bronze went to l'OL when they were still winning the Champions League year in, year out.
But the recent cases of Kelly and Morgan seem to be a different story. I haven't followed the women closely enough to know, but apparently Kelly hadn't been playing well for quite a while. That happens. A good coach will know whether that is temporary loss of form in a basically class player or not. Apparently, Taylor was not that coach. Esme Morgan may not turn out to be a major player (I know, she's ripping it up in North America) — but it would have been nice to have seen her play a number of 90-minute games, and then judge. I don't think she did.

Haha, that would be irritating! But it's your daughter who is the chief cheerleader for the Chloe Kelly Show, sounds like.

On a serious note, it is pleasing that young girls all over the country are finding heroines in sport to identify with. They'll be the next generation. The technical level will improve from one generation to the next.

I think Bunny is in her last year of her contract, you can bet the likes of Bayern and Barca will be in her ear this year. It's going to be hard for City to compete with that
