James Trafford joins City | 5 Year Contract

Interesting to see how this is going to unfold having two 1st team keepers. He’s not coming here to be a number two even if for a year and likewise ederson won’t be happy to be the number two even if he is going next year.

Although Trafford did well last year it has to be remembered that this was the championship and it’s a whole different ball game making that jump up to the prem.
I hope it all works out for him.

Listened to his interview, really chuffed for him he sounds really excited to be back at City.

Well, nobody's going to say anything different really, are they, but there are good grounds for thinking it's genuine, given that he was trained as a keeper here first, and it's a kind of homecoming.

Needs to change his name by deed poll, and then he'll be fine…

it's a bit hard on Stefan, really. He's obviously the one to go. But actually maybe it isn't hard, maybe it's best for him. I rate Stefan, I think he's a bloody good shot stopper, and not a bad distributor at all, although obviously he pales in comparison with Ed. I firmly believe he deserves a first place spot in a lesser PL team or a good Championship team with the chance of going up — no sweat. But it makes no sense to have a 32-year-old shadowing a 31-year-old. City always look to the future. If Ed tightens his game up — and he needs to — he could be going to 34 or even 35, and James will be coming completely into his prime. As it is, I expect James to be pushing him pretty much right from the start. And obviously I'm banking on Ed re-signing. It's not clear to me why Ed would have made that “99% fiction” statement if he was insincere — he was under no pressure to. He could have simply been non-committal.
I don't see the Trafford arriving/Ortega staying/Ed going scenario as ideal, frankly. I'd be ok with it, but it's not the best of the two scenarios. Not in my view.
He’s told us for a couple of seasons that he’ll leave. Now’s your chance then, thank you for your service.

Forced due to his outside interest, and clearly happy to transition in over the next 12 months; expectations and comparisons to those before him naturally exist; we’ll never see the same ability on the ball as Eddie, he’s been a perfect 10 for me, a mean 8 across the board, however, we evolve alongside the inertia of the game, and would be unfair to concentrate on the differences at 22, Eddie is a freak but Trafford is a better shot stopper already, becoming extremely dominant aerially, over the last season and in frame….

We’ve got one of the many let go back, fingers crossed he mirrors those of the same pot, shining at the top level!
I think Ederson is fantastic but we perhaps need less of his passing ability if teams are sitting deep and not pressing us.

Do they mention what other clubs have spent over the same period Peps been in charge ? while going through managers faster than Ferguson goes through a glass of whisky.
Absolute bogus horseshit.

Mourinho isn't even on that list and he spent £400m in his first 18 months at Chelsea.

Spent another £400m plus at United and that's before we factor in Real Madrid and Chelsea again.

It strikes me as possible that Pep is rethinking the way the ball is played out from the back anyway, with the going of Kev, and a Johnny who can't be relied on himself to play out from the back, sad as it is. A lot of the balls were either pinged by Ed straight to Kev if he was in space, or given to Johnny who'd then do the same thing but from further up. That incredible first season of Håland, that was often what was happening, that axis functioned superbly — very swift transitions through Kev, who was receiving pinpoint balls from the back. Kev would either accelerate swiftly himself until in a position to shoot, or play the ball through to Erling who would be just on the shoulder of the last defender (and always capable of outsprinting him). A variation on it was Kev advancing and playing a one-two with Håland, cf. the Arsenal 4-1 game. That's not going to happen exactly like that any more, with Erling now double marked, and with so many new players like Cherki and Marmoush in, Bobb back, Phil hopefully regaining form, etc.
The team has to evolve. After last season, that much is clear. And Pep will have been thinking hard about it.

Correct, he's also spent nearly 2B Euros. Anchotti has also spent 1.8B.

Excited by this signing, always nice to have Englands number 1. This lad has said for years his dream is to be playing for City and I always thought it was never going to happen, fair play to the lad.
