Manchester Airport police assault trial | Man found guilty of assaulting two female police officers

have i made this up in my own head,
or could you go and simply watch the planes take off and land, for free somehow?
possibly up on top of the terminal itself.
just turn up with sarnies and binoculars, no bag searches.
i'm meaning mid-late 70's.
you could go on the roof of the terminal and along the roof of the departure gates up till early 90s
wasnt free but only about 50p per person

I can remember when the airport was Ringway it was free.
The Airport Police station was at the end of a row of shops as you came out of what was then just the Airport arrivals and departures, what is now T1 where Jet2 is. Almost below Tower Buildings.

I used to sit there with my mate and his dad, we had some folding chairs and butties and crisps it kept us off the streets :)

Not at all. In the 60s when I were nobbut a lad I went with my Ian Allan book of civil aircraft registrations to tick off on to the pier roof , a flask of cocoa and sandwiches for the day. No fee, no security.

A relative of my dads lit me sit in service vehicle on runway whilst he waved in the plane with his table tennis bats. Got to go on various planes ie Dan air and have a look round cockpit whilst grounded.
Remember listening to air traffic control chatting to pilots on radios we’d got for xmas( not sure this was fully legal but radios picked it up on certain setting.

Ian Allan book of steam locomotives for me, 2d for a platform ticket at the main line stations and going round Longsight sheds.

I don't really want to get embroiled in this discussion, but I want to add a 'pushback' comment to want the 'Black Belt Barrister' said about the "ridiculousness" of the fear of being killed by (unidentified) police in public...

Jean Charles da Silva de Menezes who was not even a national.

Okay, carry on.
You think the De Menezes case has parallels with this? You think he had an iota of a clue about who he was faced with? Okay, carry on.

I'm sure there was a nominal fee paid by slot to free a black metal turnstile to access an elevated pier

It's not about "parallels". The barrister said it was "ridiculous" to fear death by police, like it never happens. I have to think of the incident, a bit late for my tired brain, but there was one a few years ago that sparked a riot under Cameron's rein, I think.

Rare, yes, but it happens.

That's going back some time, British Caledonian and BOAC!
