My wife and I will be traveling to England in late September and one of my bucket list items is a man city game. We will be going to the Burnley game on the 27th. Will be taking the train in from Chester. We're planning on walking to the stadium from Piccadilly and want to take in all of the atmosphere possible. Any advice, places to see, where to eat, how early to arrive, and anything else you can think of. Right now it looks like the game is at 3:00 p.m.

Advice for first Etihad match

Hello and apologies if this content is covered elsewhere. My daughter is a huge City Fan and as part of our trip to the UK this summer, we plan on attending the home match vs. Spurs. I'd appreciate any advice from the forum on how to maximise the experience for her. As we are a large family...

What’s a “bucket list”? And what’s this “travelling with my wife” bollocks?
I recommend the following:
Stay in Chester.

Although you said you were walking, I'd consider the 216 bus from Stop D in Piccadilly Bus station, Piccadilly Gardens near Morrisons supermarket/Travelodge Hotel. It's £2 per person. Then sit on the top deck and you get a view of where you are going. There are 216 buses that are normal stopping services and 216 buses that go directly there. Usually run about every 15 minutes on a matchday.

If you have time, I would recommend walking from Victoria Station and the Football Museum (Urbis) into St Annes Sq. The Royal Exchange Theatre, St Annes Church are worth seeing, then onto Deansgate and John Rylands Library. If you look down Deansgate you will see the skyscrapers. From John Rylands Library you can walk up to Albert Sq where the Town Hall is. It's being refurbished but some of it is worth visiting. You can then walk to Piccadilly Gardens from there to get the bus. Sounds like a lot of walking but it isn't. You will be able to see all these places on a google map of Manchester City centre.

Most of the city centre is great but Piccadilly Gardens has lots of beggars and drug dealers these days. If you walk to the stadium the canal route is nice or you can zig zag through the Northern Quarter and Ancoats areas. Lots of bars and restaurants in this area. Lots of live music. And lots of City fans go there before and after matches.

Head to ancoats cutting room square (, have a pint in Edinburgh castle, Jimmys, Seven brothers, cask then enjoy a walk to the ground takes about 15 mins or longer depending how many pints you have
