Where were you when we were s**t?

I’ve got a great photo of him, my teenage daughter, my mate and his son on the streets of Istanbul on the afternoon of the Final.

The rest of the people in the photo had no idea who he was.

I will have been 9 or 10 when I was watching him play for City from the big white walls of the Piccadilly Tunnel on the Kippax. He was one of my first blue shirted heroes. I had posters of him on my wall. He did something that everyone on here or dreamed of doing. Even at that age you could see, the way he played, that wearing the shirt really mattered to him.
I was a bit older, about 16 I think, and my main memory of him was his unique two armed celebration which me and my mates used to copy. We also used to call him "Donkey Lillis" too but I didn't tell him that. His son was a goalkeeper for Rochdale (I think) when we met.

I remember his little celebration. Not the best player in the world but a 100 per center and a proper blue who understood the club and fans.

Attendances across the country fell due high unemployment, social problems and hooliganism. I was to young to realise. My first few years as an ST and went to many aways. No problems getting tickets to any away game like there is now.
Used to pay in on the gate at many away games then.

I think that’s really disrespectful to both of them.

I bumped into Mark in Istanbul before the Champions League Final. What a lovely bloke. He’s still a huge Blue. You could see from the terraces that he gave everything wearing the shirt.

I think he had a lot more talent than the likes of Dickov, Bradbury, Robert and Gareth Taylor, Creaney, Russell, Greenacre, et al.

He was one of the shining lights in a really dark time under Swales. In fact he kept us up in 85-86. He scored 11 in 39 (15 in all comps). Taking us to the Full Members Cup Final.

Other than the tache, him being Scotch and a decent number of goals, I remember a lot less about Gordon Davies.
Massive Blue Mark it was his dream move when he finally had played for City.

I believe my first match at Maine Road was a 1-0 victory over Arsenal, possibly 1991, David White scoring in the 76th minute. Prior to that game, I'd always 'followed' Forest, but I was seeing a girl grom Sheen whose family were all Blue and they invited me to stand with them in the Kippax. Brilliant, I was hooked! My last game at MR was a 4-0 win over either Lincoln or Wycombe I think...
Favourite players from that era, Rosler, Beagrie, and Morrison...happy days! b8fecab2-7380-423c-8a62-b3cc3d0c3cc5-1_all_1504.jpg

Just looking at our last few fixtures for the 85/86 season.
Look at all them away games on the spin.

That can't be right can it?
