Fans turning to lower league football

What's it like if they score? do you celebrate? is there emotion ?
It's not the same as City but I enjoy it when they score. Want to see them win, but if they don't it doesnt really bother me like it would with City.

I'll make an appearance at a big Altrincham game if I can. Haven't been many since I left Manchester but I've been there for various promotions, derbies against Macc etc.

Theres no emotional involvement though. I couldn't do it all over again with someone else. I know a bloke that was a United fan, became an FC fan, then a West Didsbury fan, now Wythenshawe Town. It doesn't make sense.

Have watched my home town Fleetwood all my life as well as being a Blue. An ever present at Maine Rd from 1969 onwards, I lost connection with the club after the move to the Etihad. My dad who I went to watch City with passed away and getting tickets became a pain in the arse. I became an armchair blue and Fleetwood season ticket holder. As Fleetwood became a league club it became a bit big there and I pined for the non league days, I will be at Highbury this afternoon desperate for a win, next Saturday will be on Thornton Cleveleys, North West counties league great beer and pies not worried about the result. It's not City but it's a good day out £3 for a pensioner.

Watching another team is ok I've done it on occasions Ashton united, Curzon, Chadderton to name but three however, it's all a bit meh.

No team can get anywhere near my emotions with City.

In fact, watching someone else is like watching International football sometimes a bit exciting, sometimes not and no particular horse in the race.

PL attendances are up around 11% in ten years, and may fluctuate depending on size of grounds that are promoted and relegated clubs have an expansions, but it is also 21% up over 20 years and 66% over 30 years.

Championship attendances> 23% in 10 years, League 1 - 43%, League 2 - 32%..

More a case of increased numbers of fans watching football.

Look at Boxing Day last year. City v Everton, local game for both teams, City put prices at £78 for adults and £48 for children on what is traditionally one of the biggest ticket selling days in the football calendar as families buy tickets as Christmas treats for the family for Boxing Day games… and due to the stupid prices there were empty seats all over the place.

On the same afternoon over 1,200 people went to the Wythenshawe derby at Wythenshawe FC. Four of my mates who went to that are lapsed priced-out City Season Ticket holders who would probably have gone to City v Everton had it been cheaper.

Personally, it’s not for me. I find the football quite boring and slow at that level.

Started watching football at Moss Lane thanks to me stepdad (who also got me supporting City).
Got a season ticket at Maine Road and followed through thick and thin.
Can't justify the cost/time now, so I'll be back to Moss Lane as often as I can from now on.
Doesn't feel quite the same, but enjoy seeing everyone I know down there and the standards reasonable

And you created a depressing username and a defeatist topic on the verge of the new season.
Its been my Username everywhere since I had kids - it wasn't created with you in mind, pal.

Its not defeatist at all. Im actually extremely optimistic for the season ahead. It was created on the back of a conversation with my Dad yesterday who was only interested in talking to me about County.

But, thanks for your input.

Probably the Doonhammers for me in between City games .. Also more than likely to be my local team within the next few years .

I’m also from Stockport but refuse to follow County as I know too many reds who support/follow them.
But I do understand the sentiment as City (and the premier league on the whole) have priced a lot of working class blues out - me included.
I just couldn’t support another team, I’d feel like an imposter. I’ve only ever loved City and that’s how it’ll stay.

Crewe Alex for me. Started going there last season and it's like going to football as it should be... about football, and maybe a pie.

No VAR, so it's faster and more natural. There's no carnival going to a concert feel, it's for supporters and because of that we get fans not tourists, and because of that there's passion in the crowd.

There's no feeling of being ripped off for as much money as they can make out of you while they treat us like a herd of animals.

No costly memberships just for the privilege of maybe being able to buy a ticket.
And certainly no "how much money can we make out of our customer-base" feeling.

Going to lower league clubs has more of a community feel to it, more of an all in it together feeling. Going to the Etihad (besides the football) leaves me cold and feeling like iv been a consumer rather than a fan they cherish.
I live in Sanbach, a 10 minute walk to the railway station, and it's 1 stop to Crewe, so I have thought about going if they play at home when City aren't

My alternative is a 5 minute walk to Sandbach United, but no way I could go and watch a team called United

Gave up my season card a couple of seasons ago. Only watch City on streams now.
Season ticket holder at Cymru North club for £50 a season and enjoying games much more than I have for some years.
I'll always be a Manchester City fan, but there's no way I'd go back to having a season ticket at City now. It's simply not the same club any more.
Thank god. I was sick of losing. Lovely trophies yum yum.

Agree definitely quite a lot of reds lying low there.
I was a County sympathiser in my youth but these days not so much
Haven't they effectively bought (with top wages compared to rivals) their way back up the leagues under the guise of being this wholesome football model.
Happy to be corrected if I missed something

I could never devote as much time, money and emotional energy to any other club. If City folded I'd watch the phoenix club that would inevitably appear, and if that didn't happen then I'd just see the occasional game to tick of new teams or grounds.
But think about it from the rainy Saturday perspective: If City kick-off at 3-00 then I'll be picked up at 1-30 and will face a 15 minute walk in the rain from where we park to the ground. And the same after the match. Would I do that to watch another team?
