Stadium Developments thread - San Siro to be demolished (p56)

Three promotions and largely the same fans going now as before in an old ‘football ground’ rather than a new ‘football stadium’. Their dans haven’t been spoiled by 15 years of success.

If only a certain person hadn’t ‘bought’ all the pubs within easy walking distance to the ground and run them into the ground.
I’m staggered that Leeds are going for the option of opting for 2 new stands rather than a rebuild, especially when the two new stands are virtually a copy and paste of Liverpools news stands.
I just think that if they establish themselves in the Premier League, they will easily out grow it.
Leeds could turn it into a good venue for other events for Yorkshire to be honest.
This just seems like a ‘This will do for the next 10 years time’ option rather than looking 30-40-50 years down the line. I think the same with Anfield as well, I honestly don’t think it will be long before they itch to move into Stanley Park again.
Even you have had what, 3 extensions to the Etihad now? That’s on a 25 year old stadium.

I agree. I suppose it’s easier to find £250m to build a couple of stands than £1bn to build a new stadium?

I live in the city. I’d say their natural capacity is or sky around the 50k mark.

Their new owners have recently built a new stadium in San Francisco, although I’d argue that it’s the shittest version of all the new ones in the NFL.
They wouldn’t have trouble finding the money to finance it.

Savills Central South Planning team has been appointed by AFC Bournemouth as one of the lead consultants for ambitious expansion plans for Vitality Stadium.
The project, at Dean Court, Bournemouth, marks a significant milestone in the club’s illustrious history and its ambitious journey to becoming a top-performing club in the Premier League.

The expansion aims to increase the stadium’s capacity to about 20,200 seats, significantly enhancing the matchday experience for fans. Additionally, it will ensure full compliance with Premier League and UEFA standards, strengthen the club’s community impact, and implement cost-effective, low-disruption solutions during the redevelopment process.

The project includes the refurbishment, replacement and expansion of stands to accommodate upwards of 9,000 additional spectators. A new fan zone will be created within an extended stadium perimeter fence line to provide enhanced facilities for fans. The club is targeting the completion of the first phase of additional capacity by the start of the 2026/27 Premier League season, with the remainder ready for the 2027/28 season.

Barca phased capacity return to camp nou during construction works (scheduled to finish late 2027).

Spanish LaLiga side FC Barcelona has received approval from the City Council for a modification to the Camp Nou construction and operations permit, with the aim of opening the stadium at an initial capacity of 27,000.

The governmental body states that the first phase of the renovation project has now been divided into three sub-phases.

Phase one had originally covered the construction of the first two of the stadium’s three tiers.

Phase 1a now includes the south goal and main stand with seating for 27,000 spectators. Phase 1b will add the lateral stand to increase the capacity to 45,000 while phase 1c completes the north goal area, bringing the total up to 60,000 seats.

Phase 2 then involves construction of the third tier which is expected to begin in around 12 months’ time.

The stadium will reach its new maximum capacity of nearly 105,000 upon completion.

The first phase subdivisions will allow the club to progressively obtain partial occupancy permits, making it possible to reopen the stadium on September 14.

Over the following months, Barcelona is expected to seek additional partial occupancy permits from the council as each construction phase is certified.

Unfortunately they will get it.
There is enough MPs who are Man Utd customers to make it happen, and Ratcliffe has a team of lobbyists who are responsible for his wealth in the first place. There will also be plenty of them with companies who can gain money from the contracts as well.

Also and I don’t mean this disrespectfully to you all, but over the last 20 years our governments have loved throwing money towards Greater Manchester and saying that they have invested in the north.
I’m not saying that you aren’t entitled to it, you have had deprived areas like elsewhere, what I’m saying is that outside of both Greater Manchester and London, the money spent by the government has been pitiful.
I highly doubt public money will be used to build the stadium. If the stadium does go ahead there will probably be public money going into infrastructure projects in the area. Highly unlikely the new stadium will get built by the current owners anyway.
As for government money being spent in Greater Manchester, you might be right but it really doesn't feel like it.

Class!

Those restaurants and executive boxes are something else.
Very jealous of that steep one tier stand behind the goal.

Missed out on tickets for England v Australia in the rugby league there this Autumn, sold out before I remembered to get tickets.

Yeah, I’m not on about specifically the stadium though. I’m on about them giving money to Freightliner to buy new land, money to Network rail to build the train network to the new location. Money towards those new apartments that will be sold for huge amounts of money, likely to overseas investors from Homes England etc.
