The term "Uncs"

A lot of highly educated City fans regularly use the term on podcasts. I get young people using the term but anyone over 25 give it a break lads. It’s cringeworthy.

Me, mates and certain family member use the word Unk, from the old animated Tarzan cartoon.

We use it as a an insult,or to get someone's attention, will try find Tarzan cartoon now.

This is a useful thread for me. The other week I turned 50 and my lad told me I'd reached "Unc Status". Didn't have a clue what he was on about, cheers Bluemoon

Unc status is more around 30 years old these days lol. Basically if there is a younger generation now old enough to debate you in something but you're old enough to remember the year that person was born.

Not sure I get the hate for what is a term of endearment for our senior players. Like people getting annoyed at "Manny" language changes, young people will have their own phrases, nowt to get worked up over.

Chelsea players call Tosin unc, and he's only like 27 and max 5-6 years older than the majority of the squad. It's definitely a term of endearment in some contexts. On social media, it does sometimes get used as a way to dismiss people and opinions. In Chelsea circles, people now use 'propa chewls' as an insult whereas when I was growing up it was 100% a term of endearment.

Apparently Unk is Mangani for go, which makes sense as in the cartoon Tarzan says "Unk Nkima, Unk"
Nkima is his little monkey friend

"Mangani is the name of a fictional species of great apes in the Tarzan novels of Edgar Rice Burroughs, and of the invented language used by these apes. In the invented language, Mangani (meaning "great-ape") is the apes' word for their own kind, although the term is also applied (with modifications) to humans. The Mangani are represented as the apes who foster and raise Tarzan."

I need to get out more

3:13 Tarzan says Unk

'Unc' as in uncle, used for players who are 30+ years old. It's a funny term tbh I'm guilty of using it too. But I can see how it can get toxic very fast.

Yeah, as someone staring down the barrell of 40 it's upsetting to think that anyone above the age of 28 has unc status but it is what it is!

I'm not far off your age, and I have cousins in their early-mid 20s calling me unc. I don't mind it though. Its just fun and games.

When I was a younger we used to call blokes in their 40s and above coffin dodgers. Now I'm getting the same, the vocabulary is just different.
