Rip-off Britain

Oh don't get me wrong. Skilled job, not to be sniffed at but a mate of mine earns 75k a year!!! A junior doctor has done GCSES, A LEVELS, DEGREE, POST GRAD and Specislism placements for upto 10 years wracking up into 100k in student loans and their job brings monumental responsibility!
Alot of painters i know earn same around 70k. Some painters/sprayers also earning over 100k mark in town. Tilers on site getting 300 a day.

True inflation is the problem things seem like a rip off but the pound has lost lots of buying power, 100k 10 years ago only has the buying power of £74k today, a 25% drop in just a decade.

UK Airport drop off charges. WTF is all that about.

Just had an APCOA Parking Charge for that on a drop-off at the beginning of the month.
I was aware I had to pay on-line but simply forgot and now the parking charge is £100 reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days. I was timed at being there less than 2 minutes. Fucking piss take.
Fortunately there's different appeal letters to avoid paying on MSE forums.

We should count ourselves lucky. Whenever you go to Europe, other than in the Supermarkets, everything is rounded up to the nearest Euro whenever they increase prices. It’s particularly annoying when it’s the beer prices.

God yessss! Coffee shops. 10 minute wait eyeing up tiffin for a fiver then a Luke warm coffee with a fancy name. That'll be 5.60 please!!
Hard to call coffee a rip-off, enough people seem daft enough to spend a fiver on coffee so they'll keep charging it. Last place I worked at provided free tea, coffee and milk in the kitchen so you could make your own but I was surprised how many people went in the canteen and paid for a starbucks coffee to bring back to their desks.
What IS a rip-off is water bills !! Bad enough in the North West but my partner's niece who lives near Oxford has just had her bill increased by over £300 per MONTH!!

Got 48 cans of coke zero(not for me) for 14 quid today, usually 12 quid for 24(29p each) bargain! And also Persil washing cream stuff..9 quid each usually, today it was 2 for 9 quid. God bless you Mozzers. :) ohhh, wrong thread..Soz :)

We are massively ripped off over here there can be no denying that. It started when the utility bills got doubled almost overnight. That was a scandal and a massive swizz it still is. I do a poll in the pub and ask everyone how much they owed back by their gas and leccy companies and every single person says at least £300. Everyone. They are taking the piss

I was owed nearly £400 by eon, so emailed them and they said no problem. You can have anything up to what we owe you. Left £150 in to cover winter. 18 months later same. But this time said I could only have half back and they would need to put my dd up. The figure being nearly double what I was paying. Fraudulent counts.

I'm. Voting Reform UK as soon as humanly possible.

This government is as equally shit as the last.
You can't keep doing the same thing and expecting different results.

Went into the pound bakery the other day and their pies were £1.20!

After just spending 30 horrendous minutes in JD Sports and noticing the absolute minimum you need to spend for some half decent trainers is 100 quid! I got to wondering exactly how screwed our country is price wise. We all know the biggies, highest leccy/gas charges in Europe, Water (it should be this country's oil, thanks Thatcher) Council Tax, Petrol, Insurance, House prices.. obviously I could go on. But how about the relatively under the radar rip-offs that we all kinda accept?

The match..... rip-off
Cinema.......rip-off
TV package.....rip-off

To a degree I guess, again, they are fairly well known. But how about...

A pie. Greenhalches bakery £3.50! Rip-off
Small Bottle of Pepsi. £1.70.... Rip-off
A placcy bag at Tesco.... 40p. Rip-off
A car service.... £200/300 minum. Rip-off
Hair cut.... £10/20. Rip-off
New boiler. £3000/4000. Half a day's work. Rip-off
Windows cleaned, average semi... £8/10.... rip-off
New Roof. £8/10k. Rip-off
X Box Game. (Download) £60/70 Rip-off
Taxi to airport.... name your price... Rip-off
Train fare say Manc/London.... Rip-off
Chocolate bar £1/1.50 Rip-off

Obviously I could go on. Feel free to list more or indeed justify WHY a plasterer can earn more than a doctor! It obviously points to broader issues though. We don't say NOOOOO enough in this country. We don't get organised and plan to boycot set stores enough. We could have a monthly lottery and pull a Rip-off business out that hat and say This month, nobody is taking their business to Tesco or Halfords or Tui etc. Maybe theres other tactics we could use as the absolutely hammered consumer. Enough surely is enough?
Who on earth would pay more than £40 for a pair of trainers?

Don't shop at the Co op then, their prices are off the scale, they're comfortably double what Aldi would charge

And a decent plasterer has done probably the same amount of time getting to be good at his job, whilst grafting everyday, makes me laugh when people try to dumb down decent tradesmen like learning a trade is easy
No trade is easy, yes you could take a shortcut and do a daft six month college course, but you would be shite at it. A decent tradesman has done a four year apprenticeship then spent years polishing his skills
