Fans turning to lower league football

Yep - exactly what I was talking about in my OP.

But, some people take it personally and call me a Rag for it.

Weird bunch.
It is weird for a City fan to comment about blues turning to lower league clubs. You also later posted about Stockport, a classiv Man Utd meme.

Took my 5yo son to watch Oldham v Colchester on Saturday as we live nearby. £20 for me and £3 for him. That is both tickets for less than it has cost for his ticket for the upcoming Spurs game. Oh and no joining fee.

The football is nowhere near what we get to see at the Etihad, and of course we both don't feel the excitement we feel at City. But, the difference in price really does make a difference, and I will probably go and see them again as I have no chance of getting away tickets, even after years of being a season ticket holder.

It won’t be long until it happens in the Prem . I can see the attraction of watching lower leagues football. If or when I stop going to city I won’t bothered about any lower leagues football. It will be tele only for me

Long story but I have followed Darlington FC since I was 10 alongside being a City season ticket holder for 45 years.
They are now fan owned and in NLN and I watch them a lot more nowadays as with City on TV a lot its easier for me to fit them in.
I love the non league experience, I meet up with some Darlo based mates and have a few pints, don't get ripped off, meet knowledgeable fans and can get in and out without some steward flexing his/her/them muscles and ruining my match experience.

Wtf are you talking about??

I talked about fans of Premier League Clubs (not just City) turning to lower league clubs - and used Stockport as ONE example, as that's what my Dad and other family have done. But also said I know people who have turned to Salford, Altrincham, Oldham and West Didsbury & Chorlton.

Why not go read my OP properly without having a hissy fit?

Also, based on the responses of all the other people who have commented, what I said in my OP isn't incorrect. There are a lot of people going to watch lower league clubs as well as/instead of City.

The day that happens and they want to charge my ST for a game less, is the day I stop going altogether.

I do go to the odd non league game for something to do with mates, West Dids, Wytenshawe and so on and it’s always a decent laugh. Pint or can by the side of the pitch.

Saw a feller for the Isle of Man score an absolute worldy of an overhead kick against West Dids, one of the best goals I’ve seen live.

But realistically I don’t think I could support another team, nice to go see football but it’d never be the same.

I understand for those with families, especially when they don’t have strong ties to a bigger side, kid still gets to go watch football and you can still afford to put food on the table. Win win.

I go and watch both Wythenshawe teams occasionally. I don't support either but like to help with both of their journeys.

All the references to Stockport worth remembering for a couple ofi seasons in the 90s they were in the same division as us and on 98 99 the division above us. In those days their seemed little enthusiasm for them, and have seen Blackpool fans take the piss at Edgely park. Their revival seems to have come about from them dropping out of the league and their fans seem to have delusions of grandure.

I think that has played a part, but there’s more to it than that. As others have said, it’s more affordable and if you want a proper traditional football experience I’d argue it’s better than going to the etihad, which to me has become like Disneyland.

One of the things I’ve noticed not just at county, but at clubs like Oldham and others is the age and demographics of the crowd. Groups of young lads in particular, who’ve been priced out of attending city games. The next generation aren’t going to premier league games, they’re going to the lower leagues in bigger numbers

I go to watch Macclesfield. £20, stand with mates, have a beer and watch the game. Most of the songs are adopted City songs as there’s a lot of young blues who follow them. Leave home at 2.15, back at 5,15

The fact is that more people are watching football. When started watching City, they were getting crowds of anything from 8,000+ to 15,000 in a 63,000 capacity stadium in the Second Tier. At that time Stockport were attracting less than 3,000 for home matches.

Now City are getting 55,000 (soon rising to 60,000+) while County are getting 10,000. For all Premier League matches, and many lower leagues games, the ground capacity poses the limit on attendances.

It is nonsense (and insulting) to suggest that those going to lower league matches are doing so purely because of PL prices. If there are people switching it is more likely to be down to unavailability of tickets than prices.

In the 80s id do city one week then oldham(sky not really took off then). Did a few away games too and really enjoyed them. Then the cunts started anti city stuff so fu ked them off. (As did my mates who are city too)

You're on a City forum.

If anyone is having a fit, it's you.

There’s no way I can afford to take my boy West Ham nowadays, have to make do with Dartford FC and he loves it fortunately.
