Rip-off Britain

I absolutely dread the time I will probably end up back in the UK. So much of it makes no sense whatsoever. Bang centre of town rent here is 500 quid - including all bills except internet. Then the internet 1000mbps up and down is about 15 quid a month. Oh and and in a tv package with every single prem game no matter the time at an eye watering 7 quid equivalent.

How the UK has fallen behind Eastern/Central Europe in infrastructure and living is a travesty.
Don’t listen to the moaning buggers on the internet, especially on here. Most people have forgotten how shit life could be in the seventies and eighties in the UK. The problem is, I reckon, is that we are like America now, a 2-tier population. Some with money and some without. The hard part is planning your life to ensure you always stay in the “with” section, you need a bit of luck (especially health wise to continue working) and good common sense.

Here’s things that people waste money on…

Takeaway food: it’s poor quality and bad for you. Even watching a KFC or McDonalds ad now makes me nauseous. Learn to make omelettes and soups.

£4 coffees: Buy a bag of coffee beans (£4, about 30 cups), a grinder (£10) and a cafetiere (£10). Tastes much better.

Gyms: unless you’re body building or the subscription includes a swimming pool &/or exercise classes these are pointless. Run in the park, get a second hand bike, cheap Aldi gym equipment.

Holidays: £2000 a week in Spain to sit on a beach? There’s tonnes of places in the UK to see for a fraction of that.

Cars: learn to live with one car in the household, not one each. Buses are cheap as chips to ride on.

Hard to call coffee a rip-off, enough people seem daft enough to spend a fiver on coffee so they'll keep charging it. Last place I worked at provided free tea, coffee and milk in the kitchen so you could make your own but I was surprised how many people went in the canteen and paid for a starbucks coffee to bring back to their desks.
What IS a rip-off is water bills !! Bad enough in the North West but my partner's niece who lives near Oxford has just had her bill increased by over £300 per MONTH!!
Has she not heard of water meters?

Everything would be more affordable if pay rises would have matched inflation, but for the last 10 to 15 years that hasn't happened. Neither have the amount of housing needed or promised been fulfilled.

Led by donkeys.
But if the wages haven’t gone up, what’s the excuse for the prices going up so much? I’ve been booking hotels all this week and you can’t get anything below 100 quid in most places without it being an utter shithole.

Honestly the real answer is that property, energy, etc are so expensive that they need to charge a fortune to break even. It means that even stuff that costs fuck all like a teabag with some hot water costs 3 quid because they can’t afford to have someone taking up a seat and only spending the 50p it should cost.

We are trying a new idea in this country whereby we just dont bother fixing the roads or the drains,
it saves a lot on Materials & Labour, also the numerous huge potholes have the added effect of slowing everyone down which is much safer, and obviously while the roads are all underwater due to the lack of drain maintainance there is not as much water in the rivers to swamp all the new houses built in the flood areas, quite frankly its genius :-(

Ingenious idea, it reminded me of roads in Bali.

I'm. Voting Reform UK as soon as humanly possible.

This government is as equally shit as the last.
You can't keep doing the same thing and expecting different results.

Went into the pound bakery the other day and their pies were £1.20!
I use pound bakery and I can assure you that they are more than £1:20.
Only slightly less than a more well known bakery allegedly visited by luke shaw......

Coffee shops, private parking, Holiday companies. Eating out, takeaways etc..Concert tickets. One of the reasons the pandemic was probably manufactured. The robbing, milking sods..
Ah fuck here we go. Dont you think that it is just far more apparent that every business and supplier of services took advantage of the pandemic to put prices up and take the piss?

I think it's the seemingly little things that we just accept as normal that irritate me. I've just come back from a week in Majorca, our hotel was pretty much next to the beach but in-between them was a small car park. Only little, maybe room for a dozen or so cars, but it was free. That'd be about 3 quid for an hour and £25 for the day in England!

Birthday Cards.... Rip-off
Drinks in pubs......Rip-off
Fish and Chips.....Rip-off
Amusement parks Rip-off
Funerals........... Rip-off
Cremations....... Rip-off (word of warning to anyone organising one, they charge you for the coffin... A GREAT AMOUNT. But don't burn it. I wonder how many times those boxes get re-used and charged for every time. You effectively get charged a coffin rental fee for a few hours at 100s and 100s of pounds.. RIP-OFF
I will only rent mine once tbf....

Just been back to the uk & with the exchange rate it was far more expensive than Perth WA. When you consider cost of housing & wages, you guys are doing it tough. No wonder everyone’s angry.

Just to add, nowhere else in the world is there 17 different shades of tarmac on the pavement & wtf happened to the roads.
17 different shades of tarmac- sounds like a really racey novel

In France visiting a couple of theme parks, Puy Du Fou and Futurescope, UK theme parks are such a rip off in comparison. These all close at 11pm so can get on most rides, see all the shows and food is comparable to normal high street takeaways. Bill for me and my 3 kids for a ( large) burger, fries, drink and dessert came to 28 quid. A single 'Vampyre' burger meal at Chessington costs 21 quid.
Bloodsuckers those vampyre burgers.....

Alot of painters i know earn same around 70k. Some painters/sprayers also earning over 100k mark in town. Tilers on site getting 300 a day.
In my day the painters on site earnt fuck all...
My daughter is having her house renovated, builder is £400 a day rate, cash, and thats his low rate apparantly ?

Just come back from there myself was in Cala Millor. I said the same to the wife free parking everywhere and no cunts in massive cars taking up 2 spaces ;-)

Yeah probably about right. My mate is earning 2k a week as a site manager through an agency. He was a painter and completed 4 year university course last year. Tradesman wages have gone up considerably last few years. There's lads onsite putting in the fire systems getting £500 a day.
