Gianluigi Donnarumma | Done deal according to Romano

Applying the converse logic why are Champions League winners letting him go if he is that good?
He’s a fantastic shot stopper, which is what we need, but, like all goalkeepers, he has issues. If he dropped the clanger he did against Germany in March for us, though, this place would implode.

Galatasaray wouldn't be approaching us for Ederson if he 100% wanted to stay.

So which 2 keepers would that be; Ortega and Trafford?

Would that better than Donnarumma and Trafford?
Could be all BS yet .
Agents like to move their players on for paydays & use the MCFC name , the media like to shit stir .
Lets see what happens lol!

Fabrizio broke Cherki, Reijnders , Ait Nouri he's been spot on this window. Mean while the only English media that's been good is Ornstein. Fabrizio ahead of everyone.
Romano wasn’t great a few years ago but he kept jumping on every bit of news and kept using “Here We Go” as the tag line as a part of a brand he was building. As a result he got a huge follower base and is now much more reliable as pretty much every agent uses him to brief, hence why he tweets about 20 times a day about various deals. You can tell it’s agent driven as he says things entirely from the players point of view like “Reijnders only wanted city” when tweeting about the transfer.

Ornstein seems to be the guy that UK based clubs go to for briefing, hence why he’s always pretty much on point with his links and is more cautious that Romano. Again you can see it when he tweets and it’s done from the clubs point of view, not the players.

If I was Trafford and Donnarumma signed I would be knocking on the managers door and telling him I want out. My interpretation would be that he signed on the expectation that Ederson would leave once his contract expired and not before. Once Ederson left he would be the No1 choice. However if Ederson leaves and Donna' signs it is reasonable to assume he will be the No1 choice and given his age for a considerable time. If this transpires we have made a total cock up of this. It's not as though the rumour mill in relation to Donna' has not been in operation. I sincerely hope I am wrong in this

Why ? Ederson is a world-class keeper and the best with the ball at his feet ? just stop this messing about give Ederson a pay rise and a new contract, We also just signed Trafford, and he's the future at city

You’re making a huge assumption here that Eddie wants to stay at City, and would therefore just sign a contract if we offered it to him.

He clearly wanted out last summer, and hasn’t looked the same since then.

There’s nothing to suggest he’s changed his mind on wanting out - and that’s fair enough. He’s won the lot at City.

The Club will know his position on a new contract offer, so the fact we haven’t even tried to put one to him would tend to suggest it’s a non-starter.

The options as it stands are: keep Eddie for this season, and let him leave for nothing next summer; or sell him now, and get his replacement in.

I’m not 100% sold on Donnarumma, but if we know Eddie is leaving in a year’s time - and we’ve decided this is the keeper we want - this is the far better option in terms of squad planning.

Yeah and Romano has a good relationship with Mendes who also has very good relationship with Hugo Viana as his former agent, so you can see why he may be getting more info on us than normal.

He's an excellent shot stopper but this would be a very strange signing and, based on his previous words and actions, is completely against what Pep believes in regarding GKs.
Signing Clownio Bravo in favour of keeping Joe Hart, just because of the improvement in distribution.
Maybe our build up needs some evolution but this signing would represent a complete sea change but our build up isn't what caused our below par season laast year.

Suppose it could be read either way, my way makes more sense to me but it would :) See in the next couple of weeks either way.
Think our preference is to keep Ederson, but it seems, to me, that he's wanted away for a while, so it's just a case of getting the right fee

I'm probably the biggest Ederson fan here, and I love the sweeper keeper philosophy, but are people seriously saying that Donnarumma is that much of a negative with the ball on the ground that it negates his talent as an actual shot stopper and presence in the area?

Be serious. He isn't going to be some giant liability, and the team will adapt to his shortcomings. Ederson is one in a million for playing with ball at feet.

Underrated poster in underrated show of intelligence.

This GK change could see a big change to how we build up. It’s been broken now for a few seasons and time to stop it imo.

I would rather have a shot stopping keeper than one who is good with its feet mainly due to our Achilles heel with the counter and one shot one goal.

That stops and we will look like a very good team again. All this back and forth chasing goals is why we look so wrecked all the time. That’s not how it works for city. We score the goal and they we keep the ball. Allowing so many teams 4/5 counters per game and one v one on the keeper is not acceptable and I can’t wait for it to stop. Eddie going will be good for us. We won’t get a player like him again and I am grateful but time moves on.
Fair comment but 6 Premier Leagues out of the last 8 with Eddie is going to be hard to beat with your shot-stopper. You're forgetting the best bits!
