As the title says, ive buggered up my beautiful lawn by applying weed n feed and generally making a mess

Its only a small lawn, 20m2 , and this year i went to town on it getting it lush n thick

Ariated in spring, applying feed every 6 weeks, watered when no rain, trimming it twice a week. It looked amazing.

Just had 2 weeks away and no care and very weedy (from next door) so got some weed n feed.
Anyway, i ballsed up the application and now 50% is black! Grass looks ruined in those patches , black and dey

Is it dead as a dodo and those areas need digging out, soiling and re seeding ? Or is there another less painful way ?

Put down slabs or gravel. Unless you have a perfect position (no trees shading etc) lawns are not worth the bloody effort. I put a great deal of effort for years and have now given up. Wild meadows look nice.

I found some videos on YouTube that was a great help on lawn maintenance.
You should check them out.

Just paint it green no one will notice jobs a good un

Did exactly the same with ours, dead patches for at least a year and you can still see where the patches were, oh how the neighbours laughed, but I guess that's sweet suburbia for you. We have a very mossy lawn if that's any consolation.
Im thinking its going to take a bit of TLC.
I had it looking lovely, lush thick green, pride n joy!

Then ive gone n done this. Devastated.

Thinking might be digging out the dead patches (half the fuckin lawn) and re soiling and re-seeding :((

Don't worry, if it has turned black then it's the moss killer and the dead moss just needs raking out. Fertiliser burnt grass turns yellow usually.

The moss has probably also suffocated the grass leaving patches, moss can get like a bloody carpet, nightmare! Personally I'd rake out the moss and leave it now as the soil will be like concrete and new seeds won't germinate in this weather.

Get the aeration, weeding and scarification done in late September when the temperatures have come down and we've had some rain. It'll look like crap over the winter but once spring arrives you only have to chuck down some decent topsoil and reseed and it'll be back to how it was.

It's likely all the black stuff is moss.

We had a large back lawn at our old house which looked lovely and lush, but we regularly had to apply ferrous sulphate (which is in Weed & Feed), leave it to go black and then run a power rake over it. We used to fill our garden waste bin 3 time over getting it all out. The lawn looked crap for a few weeks but it came back much healthier and stronger.

Then you’ll end up with a bumpy lawn where you’ve patched up. Better to be patient as others have said.

Is the correct answer, lawns are a waste of time and water
